Mini Cooper E
I see the Mini Cooper E is being sold in Australia. Website says price is $34 870. That must make it about the cheapest new EV available?
Has 230 -260km range too...
Has anyone see one on the roads here?

Re: Mini Cooper E
Um, that seems to be the price for the petrol version. I'd say the electric might be a tad dearer. Perhaps the price isn't even settled yet. I doubt that there is stock in Australia as yet.wovenrovings wrote: ↑Fri, 13 Mar 2020, 16:53 I see the Mini Cooper E is being sold in Australia. Website says price is $34 870. Re: Mini Cooper E
Current guesstimate for the mini e is $55000aud.
Even so at that its not too badly priced considering its a bmw i3 with nostalgia factor (which is $70k car)

Re: Mini Cooper SE
"The claimed driving range is up to 270km, but 230km on the European WLTP driving cycle.Given the target buyer is a city slicker driving that many kilometres in an average week, the balance seems appropriate."
I thought that equated to 1610km or more per week before you need to go to the service station, or fast charger.

I'm probably being a bit pedantic here, but aren't Mini's made by BMW these days?

Made by BMW, using BMW platforms (i3 in this case) and BMW parts and often sold in BMW dealerships with spare parts being supplied by BMW dealers and BMW wreckers.

Re: Mini Cooper E
My personal vote would be a separate Mini section to help with searching but moving to the BMW section also works (unless minis become super popular)
Or leave it here, it is "other" after all

Re: Mini Cooper E
We already have so many forums, I'm reluctant to splinter them more. I suppose we could create a Mini forum as a sub forum of BMW, but I don't like sub forums where I come across them.
What do you think about renaming the BMW forum to "BMW and Mini"? It's still reasonably short.

Sounds good.
Just realised that need Mercedes section for EQC now
Perhaps need to also have Audi/Porsche/VW?

Re: Mini Cooper E
Agreed, the motorbikes/scooters could all be condensed into a single forum as well. Possibly with sub forums for each brand but even just lumped altogether.
But that's probably a topic for somewhere else.

Considering Porsche, Audi and VW are all part of the same conglomerate, I reckon you can fuse them.
Likewise, BMW and Mini can be joined, as can Nissan / Renault?

Re: Mini Cooper E
Hmmm. Perhaps I'll wait on the sub-forum experiment, see below.
I'll resist with Nissan/Renault, since a divorce seems as likely as not in the next year or two.Likewise, BMW and Mini can be joined, as can Nissan / Renault?
I've renamed BMW to "BMW and Mini", and created sub-forums Mini and i3. All other BMW posts stay in the "BMW and Mini" parent forum. We'll see how much we like or hate the subforums. I note with approval that you can see the BMW sub-forums at the outer level, so you don't need to click twice to get to the i3 forum, for example.
If we're mostly in agreement in a few weeks that this is a good idea, I can consider more mergings and sub-forums. For example, "VW group" with "Volkswagen", "Audi". "Porsche" subgroups, with maybe even sub-sub groups for popular VW and Audi models.

Re: Mini Cooper E
The initial Australia shipment for 2020 (200 cars I think) was oversubscribed so if you order now, you probably won't get delivery until Easter 2021.
I ordered and put down a deposit in May on leap of faith (comforted by BMW i3 track record) as an urban second car (so not concerned about <200km range as some are)
Car arrived a couple of weeks ago but minimal driving with Melbourne Covid shut-down, looking forward to being able to drive >25km next week.
Having test driven Kona, Ioniq and Zoe, the Mini is a fun car to drive and just makes you smile - maybe not as practical as some.
I need to work out how to make over-speed alerts work or import speed-camera locations into GPS - it handles like a go-kart and just wants to go so I'm worried about speeding fines.

Re: Mini Cooper E
The easiest thing to do is to enable the speed limiter. On the left side of the wheel, press the right side of the 4 way switch. It works the same as the cruise control - click up or down for 1km/hr inc/dec. Push fully in (you hear 2 clicks) for 10km,h inc/dec. You can override by flooring the accelerator, but if you drive normally, it will limit you to the set speed. Saved me a few times

Re: Mini Cooper E
I came back to my car today and look what I found parked next to it!

This was the first one sold in Tassie - he picked it up yesterday.
Had never charged it so was learning on the go! He didn't have a Type 2 cable so gave directions to the nearby DC fast charger - was going to loan him mine until it clicked that mine was J1772
The provided granny charger doesn't reach the nearest power point at home so he needed a temporary solution!
He operates a local Sushi chain and this is going to be their home delivery vehicle!

I wonder what the key things are in order for any car to be able to pull up at any recharging station, plug it in and walk away.
