The Fifty-first State

Post by Nagaman »

We struggled to find a park in Benalla on Tuesday and Shepparton on Thursday.
We couldn’t work it out but a shopkeeper said it’s Black Friday……..and ALL WEEK.
What a bunch of shopping obsessed lemmings

I thought expressions like Black Friday were reserved by the popular media for our annual bushfire events.
Nothing is beyond commercial exploitation apparently.

I remember now….
BLACK FRIDAY. 13 January 1939.
2,000,000 hectares and 71 lives and ashes falling in NZ !
Lest we forget……(a Victorian disaster)

I see my mail folder called "Buy me" is fuller than usual. However, I think I'll keep my money this year.

We can't afford our mortgages or rent and can't put food on the table but there is a shortage of hospitality staff and there are not enough seats on planes. Something doesn't add up.

To extend the yarn - hay fever forced dad to leave the farm on the Mooney Swamp Rd near Finley (drought also) and take up a job in Melbourne.
He’d built a light aircraft (https://www.australianbuiltaircraft.com.au/) and caravan.
He had an interview for the job on the Monday and he calculated that he the only way he could get there was by towing the loaded caravan behind the Essex over Mt Hotham due to the fire.
They certainly had it tough back then.
