I could put them on pallet in the back of the wagon and take them to a courier in geelong for you. I don't have a forklift at home

How are they packed at present , batteries via courier need to be in cartons with thick packing I received 16 x 280Ah , four per carton with 40 mm polyethylene foam around , under , over and between all cells.

While tempting, I'm unlikely to buy sight unseen from someone I do not know and for whom this is their first post on the forum (no offence, I'm not exactly a long time forum member either).

Hence why, if I were closer, I'd be OK to take drive and at least be able to inspect them but unfortunately it's a ~3000 km round trip.

I'm sure there is someone more local who will snap them up.

Yes I was expecting someone closer to grab them as they are a hassle to courier. I have found a pallet and some ply for packaging if I have to.
These are AVASS cells. After going over the forum I realise I should have mentioned this earlier as many of you will know them.

Ahhh.... duelling PM's at 50 paces is it

I'm still waiting for a reply from Bryce about some 90Ah aged Thundersky cells he wanted to move out of his shed ..... Covid got in the way of the last pickup trip, but picking up both lots at the same time would make the 1500km round trip a bit less painful ....

It is often cheaper using a courier I have found , cost me $170 per pallet Melbourne to Sydney 800kg on each 44 100Ah VRLA on each several years ago.

Lithium adds a freight penalty close to transporting gold, without the added security that justifies the price.
When we get a shipment of LYP cells from far nth Qld, it would be cheaper for me to drive there and back including the lost work time by the adding the lost time in paperwork, and we still have to do a 200km round trip to pick them up from Adelaide rather than the $350 plus to get a courier to do the delivery ..... if we could find one that would do it .....

Then how were the 16 cells transported to me by couriers please from Melbourne to Sydney in 4 cartons done ?
Note the cartons are clearly marked 280ah LifeP04

Batteries I have bought have a sign on the box Lithium battery Class 9 and or UN3481 etc, as yet no one has charged extra for that, some other boxes were marked as accumulator can't remember what else was marked on them still no issue with the Courier.
If some Courier does have a whinge about it and charge more, get your self a better Courier. :)

If carting FLA in large quantities, as in Forklift battery or scrap FLA, you are required to have them taken by a dangerous goods Carrier according to the EPA, or risk Fines that will ruin you.
I cant even take my scrap FLA to a scrap yard, and they refuse to pick them up. :(

Be a good idea to check in any case.

Interesting!
In my experience I could only find two couriers who would even quote to transport my Class 9 lithium cells from Brisbane to Launceston. One of them quoted an extra $1000 - more than the price of the cells! The other quote was much more reasonable, but still a significant percentage of the total cost of the cells.

Ouch that's expensive.
I guess we shouldn't ask one of them to transport an EV for us?

Rules in Australia differ form elsewhere, as far a I can tell from short research, 2 batteries can be transported, or 4 cells to a box for road transport (forget air freight), just don't try to ship outside of Australia.
Most I have seen 100, 200 and 300AH cells have been packed 4 to a box, not too heavy for a Courier to pickup, new cells are Practically near flat when shipped over to Australia.
Anyone had batteries shipped in from over seas? after going through customs it was just the standard Courier charge to get them home.
I agree it would be worth checking around for transport options and $$$
Best option is to buy local, and go pick them up, I learned that.

I find exactly the opposite if I have a pallet load they will pick them up and when I have taken the batteries to the scrap yard I get good money for them my next lot will be 1600kg of SLA over a period of time as the banks fail.
