Help restore the Investigator!

Post by jonescg »

The SA branch is fund-raising to get the Investigator back to its former glory.

I think I saw Investigator 2 at the Adelaide AGM back in 2016. This 'Thing' as it was affectionately known predates the Investigator 2 and used hydraulic motors to drive the wheels. Motor speed control was pretty clumsy back then, and it wasn't until MOSFETs became reliable enough that PWM delivery of DC power was viable.
WA member and certainly a branch elder, the late Dennis Leary worked on some of the earliest 3 phase AC motor speed controllers in the late 70s...

Still, a far cry from the rheostats, series-parallel switching and field winding modifications of the 50s.
