PERMANTENTLY TURN OFF Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System
PERMANTENTLY TURN OFF Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System
Ok I really hate the 'Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system.
While ok on the suburban roads, I was constantly fighting with it on the country leg of my trip, and find it quite unnerving. While I know how to turn it off each time I enter the car (note on another thread another owner does the same thing), I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a way to turn it off permanently?

Agree! It's a POS. I don't know if anything can be turned permanently on or off on Kona...
...On a related note - any way to permanently switch on autohold?

Ha - we must have similar driving style ... yes that is a feature I wish was permanently on. My old Forester had this and loved it.any way to permanently switch on autohold?
The other half has already asked if he can hack the system, but the risk with the warranty doesn't make it worth while.

Nah. Can't turn it off permanently. My standard Kona start up procedure now is get in, foot on brake, start car, do up belt, hit drive button, hit LKA-off button, THEN take foot off brake ...

Isn’t it possible to disable lka and lane departure warning in the settings ?

Thx. I thought I'd done that.
Anyway have just gone through settings again, set and turned off car. we'll see whether it stays as that setting when we head out tomorrow.
keep you posted.

Re: PERMANTENTLY TURN OFF Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System
The roads in WA are unfortunately magnificently built. I say unfortunately because we could do a hell of a lot of other great things with $800 million each year.
So the Ioniq does a pretty good job when in cruise control but the lane keeping can get a little ambitious on certain stretches of road. Not so annoying that I opt to turn it off though.

Re: PERMANTENTLY TURN OFF Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System
In the Kona, lane departure warning can be turned off permanently via the dash menus - but lane keep 'assist' cannot. It resets back to on when the car is restarted. (On country roads all LKA ever does is 'assist' me to drive through potholes and other uneven surfaces that one normally gently weaves around!)
I find it the ONE big pain in the Kona. LKA in it seems very clunky, to say the least. Am told the Tesla version does it a lot better, but I have yet to drive one to try it.
Cheers

Re: PERMANTENTLY TURN OFF Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System
Lane assist is something that helps achieve a 5* ANCAP rating. I don't know how being able to turn it off affects this rating but off by default would make a less safe car.
I was driving on canning highway yesterday and this Mercedes was serving erratically well into the other lane, I thought it was phone use. Driving alongside the driver to give them a good glare it looked like they were falling asleep! I gave them a blast with the horn and made sure I was in front of them pretty quick. To their credit the pulled off into the next street.
I really didn't like it at first but have learnt to live with it and know the force needed to counteract its manoeuvres. It is pretty crap when lanes merge or divide.
I do find LFA (Follow) not too bad either but tends to hug the left hand side a bit when its not ping ponging but handles gentle curves nicely

Morning.
I can confirm when I turned the car back on this morning the LKA was back ON!

Looks like I'll be using Bryce's startup procedure ...lane departure warning can be turned off permanently via the dash menus - but lane keep 'assist' cannot. It resets back to on when the car is restarted.

I wish the Kona had LFA... I wonder why it doesn't when it does in the US and EU, AND the Ioniq here in Aus does. Anyone know why?
