Yours truly has paid a deposit, and is waiting for his jam jars of 5 cent bits to be organised before taking delivery.

Woot, way to go Mike!
Does this mean the MX5 gets relegated to Sunday afternoon rallys?

No, it's still Dave's daily driver. I'll hopefully be helping Dave install new cells when they arrive.

I am expecting you to post complete circuit diagrams for all the electronics in the LEAF now that you have one to pull apart and trace.

The leaf is home now, paid for, insured, toll activated (transponder coming), and nearly registration transferred (I didn't realise I needed my wife's drivers license to transfer into two names).

It's had its first fast charge (by me); I stopped at Jaycar Strathpine for some solar bits, and Toombul shopping centre for the charge on the way back from Landsborough where the car was located. It was a fun mini-EVenture.

I'm now looking for a "I found the CD slot" T-shirt... the CD slot is masterfully hidden. Old timers may recall this T-shirt:

Congrats, Mike. Glad to hear it all went well, apart from the Babel fish, I mean CD slot. Yes. What genius thought it was a good idea to mark the relevant button "OPEN/TILT" instead of, oh I don't know, "CD"?

Just wait until you experience the bizarre interactions between all the climate-control buttons. Or maybe you already have. You'll think you're still in an Infocom adventure.

That transponder is nearly 2 years old, and the battery should last ≈5 years. Yet we had a missing beep recently.

It seems you're supposed to ask for a new one if the battery dies. That seems silly to me; surely there's a CR2032 or similar in there.

Apparently not. It comes apart with some effort:

The battery is soldered in! I suppose I could order one from RS-Online or similar, but I can't be bothered. The battery reads just over 3.0 V, so I'm guessing that the battery is OK, and it was a random misfire last time, or we didn't hear it over traffic, or the beeper was not connecting well. I gave the beeper contacts a bit of a clean; they look a bit tainted.
