So to work it out, at a 2.4v 55Ah battery

I need 96v

So my series pack would be 40 Cells

Now I want 180kWh, or alternatively, 1,875Ah

So if each pack is 96v, 55Ah of a Series pack, I need 35 Packs (Which nominally gets me above my threshold at 1,925Ah or 184.8 kWh

As for weight, they are 1.9kg each from what I can gather, so that's:

80kg per series pack
2,800kg for 185kWh

This makes for a really heavy pack.

I mean, I'm interested, but is there a better unitised pack available?

LTO's are for PERFORMANCE
Small pack - high output

Any rubbish cell that does 1C will still do 180kWif you have 180kWh.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

There are many battery types with better energy density such as LFP and NMC but the trade off is much shorter life expectancy.

There is a very strong interest for these cells in the car audio community, there's already been a bulk of about $15000 of the 34 ah yinlong cells.
If someone imported a bunch in and they were a reasonable price they'd sell easily, the high discharge and inherent cell voltage plus safety makes them perfect for the thousands of amps that car audio setups needs at 14 volts.
A company in the USA has started buying thousands directly from yinlong but shipping from there would be a bit average.
There isn't a huge demand for them in australia yet as a lot of people have had their head in the sand, I was the possibly the first person In Australia to discover these in the car audio community mid last year (2018)

I've got 120 35ah myself and they are fantastic, good for 7000 amps at 13v+ which is plenty.
People are slowly releasing these are absolutely superior to the garbage agm batteries everyone's been using since the beginning of time.

I should hope so! 13 V x 7000 A = 91 kW. How does a voice coil or even several of them stand that sort of power level even instantaneously?

Disclaimer: I'm not part of the car audio community, so I'd be the first to admit that I don't understand it. I would think that 100 W RMS per channel would be really, really loud in a car, so say 1 kW peak (wild guess). What am I missing?

Ah. More than a "few" voice coils. And lots of fans to cool them.

And competition for the most outrageous, rather than a usable system for actual listening. I guess it's a hobby. A very expensive one, I suspect.

Thanks, @brendon_m, for the education.

Ah so I approached the problem from the other way.
If think about a 10kW 1R sub the first thing that happens in the amp is it boosts the 14V up to 100+ volts.
If your ev is already at 144-150V just bypass that stage and run from the traction pack of your ev direct.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Most vehicles aren't made for competition, just for the listening/feeling pleasure.

Typically serious subs have 3" - 5" voice coils, ranging from 2000 - 5000w rms continuous power handling. The short duration power handling is up too 8000w rms and beyond for a single sub.
Usually the actual power the subs get combined as a total is 15-30kw, some exceptions with many subs or unusual setups might be 40kw+. even 60kw of actual applied power, not potential power.
The normal mid and high freq speakers aren't taken into consideration as the power they require is comparably insignificant.

Loud is when you cant breathe, the windscreen breaks along with the a, b and c-pillar, i speak from experience haha.
It is silly, but so are alot of things, sure beats the danger of Motorsport though that's for sure, tinnitus generally can't kill you,

Ill spread the word that these cells are available, there's at least 2 people I know that want some and many more than need some but might not know it yet.

If you could advertise them on the facebook page "Melbourne Car Audio" that would be fantastic, along with pictures of cells in out of packaging.
I've already done load tests etc on yinlong lto so if anyone has any questions I'll make sure they're answered, batteries are something that has held back the hobby of car audio and LTO will help it proceed to something a bit better.

Baron, please can you pm me? I cannot message you for some reason? would like to discuss.

I'm interested in LTO cells, but as a noob, I'm concerned about putting a pack together without having cell holders. Are plastic cell holders available like those for headway cells?

Th 66160 are a bit big for a plastic holder at 66mm diameter x 210mm total length including the M12 terminal posts.

We use Aluminium plate to build our packs, 3mm x 100mm for low current (less than 300 amps) 5s2p caravan batteries and 6mm x 100mm for 5s2p start batteries.

3mm x 50mm and 6mm x 50mm work well for 1p batteries.

The Russians use plywood as cell holders, most outside of Russia are just held together with cell links and put in cases.boxes,etc.
I've just got the linking plates holding my 700ah bank together (20p6s)
I'm looking at surrounding it with foam and a case to help distribute load evenly and avoid breaking any posts off in the long term.

Also @BaronVonChickenPants check your pm's please.

I would have thought laser cut acrylic or jet cut polycarbonate would be ok.
Non-conductive too...

Interesting idea, then flood the container with EV battery cooling fluid, I believe Shell and Total Quartz among others make a specific fluid for this purpose. With a suitable circulation pump and heat exchanger, the cells could be pushed harder without the thermal run away problems and get away from the smell of the electrolyte vapours my 40Ah LFP cells produce after charging :x .

We have sold cells to members of this forum and the DIY Powerwall forum.

Tony I have PM'ed you my email.

We do have cells in stock as well as nuts, balancers and Aluminium busbars.

Happy to talk and discuss your requirements and designs.

On a design note: we have compared and capacity tested our cells in 5s vs 6s configuration for Automotive 12v use.

The theory and math say that a 6s pack charged to 14.2v reaches 2.37v per cell where a 5s pack reaches 2.84v per cell.

Once settled for 12 hours the 5s pack has a resting voltage of 13v where the 6s pack is still at 14.2v.

Capacity test show 42AH from 5s 40AH pack and 39.5AH from a 6s 40AH pack, however the 6s pack actually provided an additional 40-50Watt Hours over the 5s pack due to the higher stating voltage.

If you double checked that your equipment can handle a higher voltage of 16.2v you could fully charge a 6s pack with a DC-DC converter and improve this even further.

Most automotive equipment would be fine with this, however some inverters go into over voltage protection at 15v.
