Electric bus inverter-motor units + gearbox for sale

Post by jonescg »

The AVASS electric buses which have delivered over 150 batteries to AEVA members are now down to their base parts.

Hope to get weights on parts shortly. There are the following on offer:

- Two motors attached to the gearboxes.
- One motor disconnected from the gearbox but still have the gearbox.
- Three motor controllers to suit each of the motors.

MOTOR -
Rated Voltage = 537 V DC, Rated Torque = 600 Nm, Peak Torque = 1200 Nm, Rated Speed = 1200 rpm, Peak Speed = 3000 rpm, Peak Power = 140 kW, Degree of Protection = IP55,
Insulation = H level, Work System = S9, Liquid Cooling, Manufacturer = Shanghai Electric Drive Co, Part No = 368TYZ-XIS30BE.

MOTOR CONTROLLER -
Rated Voltage = 537 V DC, Rated Current = 158 amps, Peak Current = 327 amps, Control Power = 24 V DC, Degree of Protection = IP55, Work System = S9, Liquid Cooling,
Manufacturer = Shanghai Electric Drive Co, Part No = 54533X63H.

Contact Jason Richardson through me on secretary@aeva.asn.au
Price is flexible, but I'm guessing a few thousand for a motor-inverter combo.

I think I sent my email to the wrong place, so I have attached it to another email to the secretary email address above. That will probably explain why I haven't received a reply yet

Noting this was posted back on the 27th of May, do we have rough prices, dimensions, and weights yet?

If I get mine for the price I offered, the weight problem will only be a concern when shipping it over here. I plan to install mine in the 36ft bus/motorhome project that has ben stalled for many yrs. It has a 351 Cleveland V8 and a 4sp Alison transmission in it at the moment and that weighs quite a bit so the motor/gearbox and inverter weight is not an issue, but the battery weight could be considerable.
I'm guessing the 537vdc is nominal, so 168 LYP cells in series or 224 of the LTO cells in series. I'm thinking the LTO cells would be a better choice because the regen current would be considerable and for a long period crawling down a big hill at the 40km/h speed limit for a heavy vehicle.

500kg of ncm cells would be 100kwh.

100kw of Regen even continuous isn't too bad for 100kwh of ncm. What size battery did you have in mind?

Doesn't matter now. Just received an email back from the people selling the motors etc. The price is very good, just too rich for my pocket, so I'll have to revert to one of the other ideas using one of the 2 motors I already have coupled to the Alison auto that I already have.

I was looking at around the 100kWh battery capacity so that would require approx. 160Ah cells, 1CA at normal load and 2CA at peak load using this motor/inverter combination, but that would chew through the battery capacity in 30 mins. Still, full load up a steep climb like the Adelaide Hills is over in around 10 mins and I doubt it would require the max output for the whole climb.

Any details on the gearbox that goes with it?

It's a 4-speed electrically actuated box; no clutch - just rev matches.

Weights:

Motor by itself = 240 kg
Gearbox by itself = 240 kg
Motor with Gearbox attached = 480 kg
Controller = 30 kg

Price is negotiable, but I think around $4000 for an inverter-motor setup.

That's pretty good if it includes the gearbox

It would be, but it doesn't :( I'd probably be busy arranging transport now if that price included all 3 bit. No idea if the gear shift is completely computer controlled or if there is a gear selector that goes with it. I wonder if reverse is part of the gearbox or simply running the motor backwards?

In the picture of the complete unit I can see a computer on the back of the gearbox, separate from the motor controller. I presume this is the gearbox controller. There is a large bunch of wires leaving it that has been cut off....

Looking through the other photos, there are a lot of spots where a harnesses plugs in as well. You would need a wiring diagram, a list of all the other bits needed that are inputs to those plugs plus the big wiring harness and the inverter. Hmmm..... maybe not the quick and easy drop in and go I thought it might be ...... the price they are asking for the complete set plus these added bits and the hrs spent sorting the required wiring would soon add up to quite a sizeable sum. I'll wait and see if they revisit their pricing on these items before I venture further into this project ....... what happens if there are issues with the transmission computer and or the motor drive etc, who will have the knowledge to help work through any problems?
