Agassi's plan neglects Canberra
The deal struck with Macquarie and AGL plans to roll out plugin EV recharge stations everywhere BUT Canberra.
Copy of my note sent to www.betterplace.com:
"Dear Mr Agassi,
I note that the Australian announcement for recharge stations excludes the nation's capital Canberra. There are more cars on Canberra's roads than ever before, according to an analysis of 2006 Census figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
According to the ABS, the average distance travelleed by passenger vehicles was 14,100km in 2005 - an average of just 38km per day - Ideal EV figures if you ask me.
Why then have you neglected to include Canberra in the plan?
Also, you are invited to the AEVA Electric Vehicle open day in Canberra on October 4, 2009 - guests are encouraged to bring their EVs.
For more details, see http://www.aeva.asn.au
Thankyou,

I would have thought that Canberra would be fairly ideal for EVs as a general commuter option.

Was Tassie included? I note that Tasmania is missing off the Australia image to the right on this page.

Canberra suffers the fate of Australia's lowest population mainland Capital City of only ~300,000 people. The transitary population (visitors, politicians and contractors) are not counted of course.
Newcastle is bigger...
I guess macquarie & AGL have to think of their profits, the good be damned...

Everyone knows they don't have cars in Tasmania, just horse drawn carts and bicycles...

No sign of Tassie in the lineup...

Canberra has the lowest population of a mainland capital city?
Or does Darwin not count because we are only a Territory?
Cheers

I think Canberra would be a good place to trial EVs too also because the ACT just voted in a Greens / Labor government which might also be able to give the project the government support it needs.

I do not blame Canberra being ignored as political capital One cannot get anywhere with the politicians.. Just ignore-- the best.

If things go towards the EV swing then eventually there will be an extension to other cities and towns, lets be happy there will be a start.
