LONG DISTANCES IN A BLADE
Newbie Question: Is it possible to range extend a Blade by carrying a little generator in the boot?
I realise this is probably a dumb question ... I want to travel from Sydney to Melbourne. There don't seem to be enough public charging stations yet to make this a breeze. I know some people just pay to park near a powerpoint. I have the PlugShare app ... is there a more up to date one?

Plugshare is probably the most up-to-date list there is. If you take a 3 phase to single phase adapter you can access a few more charge points.
The generator is probably unnecessary, and besides it takes up a lot of space.

For obvious reasons, don't run the gen set while you're driving.
How much range do you have? What version of electron do you have?

No, I wouldn't be running the genni while driving! I just thought there are gaps in the PlugShare network. I could stop, boil the billy and charge with the generator.
It only has a range of 75-80kms. Not sure this version ... it is a 2009, but has had an "upgrade" ...
I live in Castlemaine where they were built and some of the original mob still live here... they will advise.
I just didn't want to truck it all the way home ... Save $650 ...

By my estimate it would take you 5 days or so if you could find optimal charging points. You'd have to really want to drive it.

Re: LONG DISTANCES IN A BLADE
Find out what current the Blade charger draws. Then check just how "little" a generator is that will supply that current continuously. Generators are often sold on the peak power output, but you should be able to find the continuous rating there somewhere.Randall679 wrote: ↑Sat, 28 Jul 2018, 06:34 Newbie Question: Is it possible to range extend a Blade by carrying a little generator in the boot?

Re: LONG DISTANCES IN A BLADE
That makes a whole lot of sense ... the 3 phase to single phase adapter ... does it charge any faster that just a normal power point? I have three phase in my Garage in Castlemaine ... I think they were going to run a kiln or a lathe.

Re: LONG DISTANCES IN A BLADE
I have decided to challenge myself and drive 1000kms back to Castlemaine.
Will the Tesla charging stations get bolshi and not allow me to charge, even if I pay and have an adapter?

How long does it take to charge a Blade?

Re: LONG DISTANCES IN A BLADE
The three phase adapter only allows you to access single phase to supply the on board charger. It won't charge any faster, it just gives you more options.
