Really ! Why so - is it ADR's that would stop it? Or just that they wont be able to make enough to satisfy demand.

Tesla Motors just recently laid off 21% of its work force, how the hell would they meet demand for something like this now? Mind you when the credit crunch really hits most Aussies wont have access to the 60K needed to buy it.

Thats not good news.
btw - 60k U.S. - so depending upon which week somewhere between 61-120K AUS whipping boy currency. Still i'm sure there's 100 people walking into car dealerships today and forking out a 60k loan for some p$n!5 extending vehicle...

the biggest prob with teslas is that they can only sell them where they have certified service centres. they cannot offer warranties if they are sold further than (i think)200km from a centre. last i herd they were trying to get a few more places set up and external garages trained and certified, but it will be a while before this happens in aus

Yep - got it in one.
I usually get annoyed at form over function kinda things but i will forgive Tesla on that one just cause they make cars that look cool rather than ugly boxes like other manufacturers.

I noticed that quite few other commercial electric cars (in shows, on web etc) have grills at the front. Perhaps for the air con radiator or perhaps just because they think people will find them "funny looking" if they don't look like other cars at the front. I would have thought electric cars could be much more pointy or rounded than a car with a vertical radiator at the front.
Daihatsu charade conversion 2009-18, Mitsubishi iMiEV 2013-2019, Holden Volt 2018-2019, Hyundai Kona 2019-2023, Hyundai Ioniq 5 2023-present on the ACT's 100% renewable electricity.

Good point Peter C. The air conditioner would be a lot more efficient than it's ICE counterpart because it's not next to a 100 degree radiator. Add to that, having good airflow would help enormously. Makes you wonder how rear-engine cars like Porsche do their aircon.

Not quite - 50 have been delivered, 1200 on order and they just secured $40 million:

Apart from the few delivered which are super late the 4 door is definitely Vapor.
Good Vapor of course!
that big scoop is unnecessary.

Hi Johnny,
havent seen many porsches up close, but my MR2 has both the radiator and aircon condensor in the front, with engine and compressor in the back.
id be surprised if porsche do things any diffferently.

except of course the air cooled porsches
They do it VW style, with a big fan sucking air in from the top of the spoiler.
A/C would certainly be in the front.

Carrera GT3's have two small radiators up front. One in front of each front wheel.
VERY vulnerable during racing!

Ill be happy with ice cubes on my balls to own such an EV without it
The issue is that the frontal area is the most important part for aerodynamics and using a horizontal radiator like on the JTP intercooled race cars would make more sense. This would improve aerodynamics immensely and open up to new designs away from mitsubishi/porsche and most car makers. Id prefer to see more classic italian 50s and 60s sportscar designs with those amazing lines. Hey even few four doors can compare to a Renault 750 or even a concept from Aston Martin
I just feel this 4 door is lacking a classy and timeless touch and will be outdated quickly.

You guys realise that the front hasn't been released yet and that's just a journo's artists mockup.
Personally i think it look Audi R8 like, and i'd much prefer maseratti.

or the drivetrain.
for a crash at 100mph, that tesla is in good nick.
if you look closely theres almost no deformation of the passenger compartment....very impressive.

That was my first thought. Survivability must be pretty low at 100mph!

They were doing 100mph before they lost it, they'd probably slowed down after losing control before they hit whatever they hit, and it may not have been an immovable object, maybe some nice soft French haystacks... or a few little 2CVs.
