EV Sticker for Number Plates
It seems Vic Roads want me to place a blue diamond sticker with the letters "EV" on my number plates - but they don't supply them.
Anyone know of a source?

Hi Johny, did they give you the specification for the sticker. If so, someone should be able to make up an artwork so that they can be printed out.

Yes they did and the engineer has offered to try to make some but I wanted to explore other alternatives.

Easy go to a place that sells most worksite stuff.
Or a sign writer.
Ask for prism tape.
Either cut it yourself or get the sign writer to laser cut what you need

Have this guy do it: http://www.facebook.com/viralvinyls?ref=ts&fref=ts
His name is Dennis and he does great work. I got some vinyls made by him before. Can you get away with having the letters "EV" cut out so the letters are the colour of the number plate background? If not, he can do "EV" as a separate sticker to go over the diamond. Either way, I don't expect it'd be more than a few bucks each. He works quickly too. Tell him "mauswerkz" sent you
EDIT: Looking through some of his other work, doesn't seem like having EV already on the blue diamond would be an issue. Send him a message and see what he says.

Thanks BigMouse. Is there another contact method for him? Facebook is blocked at my workplace and it's just too difficult on my phone app.

Do iMiev or leaf have them on?

The Vic EV Trial cars had them. I am not sure if it's Vic only - anyone in other states comment?

I have contacted Dennis, the contact person that BigMouse gave me for making EV stickers and he has indicated that he would have to make a lot. He would have to purchase a big sheet of reflective blue that would do hundreds of stickers.
Since it turns out that Victoria appears to be the only state requiring them, I have put it on hold.
I rang the organizers of the Vic EV trial and they had some spares and kindly offered to send me a couple.
My problem is solved - for now.

Ah reflective blue. tough.
Oh well could have gone some aftermarket OHS sign in reflective blue then print on that and cut it up.

Yeah - my backup plan was/is Scotchlite reflective blue 50mm tape and white lettering in vinyl.

So what's the idea behind the EV sticker? Why is it important that someone in a car behind you (in the dark) can see that you are driving an EV?

Well it's important because idiots might want to avoid EVs in thunderstorms so they don't get hit by lightning!!!
It's just a stupid regulation.
Same as using orange wire just in case you miss the 500 stickers with warning high voltage

In Victoria Hybrids, LPG and EV are flagged for the emergency services with number plate diamond stickers.4Springs wrote: So what's the idea behind the EV sticker? Why is it important that someone in a car behind you (in the dark) can see that you are driving an EV?
Green for Hybrid
Blue for EV
Red for LPG
It's so the emergency guys know how far to stand back while the car burns.
Seriously, we do a lot of work with the SES and Ambulance Victoria and they like to know what extra safety issues may be involved when they encounter a car that barely resembles a rolling vehicle. Usually they can find a number plate....

A guy in the Sydney branch was in a 7? car pile-up in his petrol car whilst in the longish process of designing his conversion.
He was the last car hit (I.E. least damaged), whilst the 1st car hit from behind by a truck had the driver trapped for an hour.
Needless to say, this affected his design - who wants to be trapped sitting on a potentially damaged lithium pack, worrying if it was about to cook you...
