Forum Software Upgrade

Post by Andrew »

I'm pleased to announce that the AEVA forums have been upgraded to the latest software version with the premium licence, which enables all features (too many to list).

Private Messages have been set to a fairly respectable 10,000.

An important thing that everyone should do now is go to the forum homepage and click the Delete Cookies link at the bottom of the page. This will freshen everything up and remove any glitches you have have experienced recently.

cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Before the upgrade I got an email for every single forum post, but I've recently noticed I seem to get one per topic. Is this a new feature / setting or is there something else going on ?
Can it be changed back?
Cheers,
Woody

Hi Andrew,

Sorry for the delay, but I've been travelling a bit of late.

Up until the 16-Jan I was getting multiple email notifications of postings to various AEVA forums with sender: "The Australian Electric Vehicle Asn". Since then, I'm lucky if I get 1 per day (in total) and the sender is "AEVA".

My subscription list appears to be valid & up-to-date.

Any Ideas?

Regards, Brad

Woody and Wellsey,

1. Have you tried the link to delete cookies set by the forum? (on the forum home page right down the bottom)

2. Email notifications are turned on, however I've just turned on ALL post notifications (despite the warning about spam filters). See how this goes.

3. Perhaps try un-watch or un-subscribe from threads then subscribe again? It's possible some settings were lost in the database upgrade.

cheers,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, the changes you made have restored the previous email functionality - I now get an email for each post in the forums I have subscribed to, as before.

cheers,
Woody

Good to hear. It seems the ongoing email notify was turned off by default on the upgraded version, meaning it only sends one per thread (I think). If in future you stop receiving emails, check spam or junk folders because it may send a lot of emails if there are regular posts.

Andrew,
Applied the "delete cookies set by the forum" a couple of days ago, but no change, so I've un-subscribes and re-subscribed this evening, see what happens. Image

This web wiz forum s/w... )runs on Microsoft servers, right?)
'seems a bit slow to save posts.

This will only worsen as new EV enthusiasts turn up, join & post.

Is anyone thinking of, say, (Open Source) Drupal (that runs on
Linux, Apache web server, etc. - all Free Open Source Software)
for at least the future?

(If interested, maybe view Lullabot's -excellent- intro tutorial
showing & telling about Drupal's features & ease of admin & use.)

IMO a group like this is too much like the Open Source Community
to be shackled to software from the likes of Microsoft.

My 2.2 cents only...

Just noticed this on my forum emails:

There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.
Is this a setting that can be turned off and is it turned off already?

I mainly read the forum via email and only go on the forum website to post and see photos...

I use the forum the same way woody. I get that message on my emails as well but I get multiple emails when there are multiple posts. For instance I got your "J" post as an email then the one following as an email.

Links from forum emails go to /forums/blah which seems to have gone.

Please put /forums back so old email links work.

Don't fix the emails.

On the 17/1/13 I cleared some of my browser's (Firefox) history and since then the 'New Posts' function doesn't set the 'Show Topics' to my last access date and time (like it used to) but gives me 'yesterday' - Note that I don't normally log in.smileys/smiley19.gif
I tried clearing AEVA cookies, looking at the last 2 hours, closing & restarting browser etc but it still won't work like before.

When I logged in tonight, the 'New Posts' set the 'Show Topics' to the date of when I last logged in.
I marked all posts as read then logged out, closed & restarted the browser but didn't log in and the 'New Posts' function still sets 'Show Topics' to yesterday.
When I log in it sets it to the date and time of when I logged out and repeating the close, restart and log in also sets it correctly.smileys/smiley1.gif

Coincidence or what?

Neil

I often have the opposite; I prefer it to give me posts up to a certain age, like "Yesterday", but find that sometimes it defaults to since XX:XX, which it thinks is the last post I read. But often it seems to get XX:XX wrong.

I've been having other weird things happening to New Posts as well. I've tried most things, especially clearing the AEVA cookies (using the "Delete cookies set by this forum" link on the main forum page), but nothing seemed to help.

I've been taking to watching two pages; New Posts and the Latest Forum Posts on the main forums page. That helps me not to miss posts, but since doing that it seems to have settled down a lot.

I thought my problem might have to do with reading posts from 2, sometimes three devices (at home and work, and sometimes while travelling as well).

It would certainly be nice to have this fixed, but it's nowhere near a high priority for me.

My solution to this problem is to "Subscribe" to all the forums I am interested in, then I get an email for each post. They sit in my imap folder until I read them (I filter them to their own folder - you could do the same with gmail). If you decide that there are too many and you'll never catch up, you can mark a bunch read or delete them.

If a post has lots of images (which is good - thanks Coulomb and Weber - picture tells 1000 words), or I want to reply, I just click through to the forum.

I use Google Reader (but you could use any RSS reader), there's an RSS button at the top right of each thread if you only want to subscribe to particular threads or the button on the front page of the forum will subscribe you to the whole forum. This way the email notifications don't clog up my email and I never miss a post.

I am now quite unable to upload any images, doesn't matter what format, every attempt is greeted with this:

"Error uploading file!!.
The file failed the security scan and has been deleted as it may contain malicous code"

It looks like an answer has already been provided for the issue of "Read" posts and cookies. It all depends on your browser and how many devices you login to the forums with using your one account.

As for the error with uploading images, I've turned off the file scanning as that is no longer relevant with this new version. Please try uploading again.
