The WA eV Challenge is on again Monday October 24th. This year it is at the RAC driving centre near Perth airport, a real race track so things could get interesting.

I like the idea of it moving to the RAC track.
But holding it on Monday will probably kill the event.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

There are plenty of kids/adults willing to take the morning off school/work to attend and compete. Yours truely is excited anyway.

You guys interested to lend a hand in the pits for River Raiders team?

At this stage we have enough drivers but pushers and moral support also welcome.
Planning on two cars this year with new motors, three if we can swing it.

Good luck with the race this year Rod. Just missed it this year as the new car is a work in progress but will be there next year.

Well the race is over :(
As expected the spectator numbers were down (a lot).
The track was also so big that brakes were not used that much.

And there was a bit of a controversial start in the 2nd race where some cars at the back of the pack were being over taken by the front runners before they had started the race.

Still it was a good race day with plenty of good entries.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

I don't have the official results but one of the River raiders came second.
Only beaten by Challenger TAFE's carbon fibre leaning machine.

Wasn't much in it - a nail biting finish

How do they manage to build a carbon machine for under the $1200 limit?

Still wouldn't help. Taken from the ev challenge rules;
4. Materials and services that are donated or obtained second hand (or stolen) must have their full , fair value included in the final cost.

What are you talking about carbon is like only $50 per tonne Image

Unfortunatley the details of costing supplied to scrutineers is not open to the public.

Given that there were a few that were fibreglass monocoque cut in half and hinged like a backwards pac-man it didn't seem totally out of the question.

I guess it could have been a carbon fibre look-a-like.

Hmmm business idea!

Step 1. Buy Carbon at $50/tonne
Step 2. Knit it into cloth
Step 3. Profit!!!!!!!!!

Yeah it was quite something. Our car was #46 which you see at about the 3 minute mark going past the blue car all the in car stuff is shot from. It was quick but we had a few issues on the day. A new concept though so we should have it refined for 2012.
