EV2Go's - Lithium Powered Trike
I tend to lean towards plastic for light weight and also corrosion resistance. However, here you may also have to worry about UV resistance, any idea how the plastic will stand up to UV?
What about price, up front and also if it has to be replaced down the track?
FWIW, the shiny plastic one looks nicer and I like blue!

It would be way more exciting (for us) if you ran the motor and held a hacksaw to the shaft.

Agreed - just take is easy and check temp. every now and then.
Are you sure you don't want to think about this for a day or two?
Removing all of the rear-end of the shaft may make putting a tacho or encoder on to the motor a bit more difficult.
