EOI - Battery boosters (EV Jerry CANs)

Post by antiscab »

The team at Electric Properties PTY LTD have been developing an EV range extension solution around the idea of using removable and interchangeable batteries.

Longer explanation in this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=9234

We have started an Early Stage Innovation Company (ESIC) called Electric Properties PTY LTD in which to do this R&D and have lodged a provisional patent application on the magic box that makes it all work.

We're looking for expressions of interest for investors (in money, labour, materials or a combination thereof) for further development of the innovation and to fund lodgment of the full patent application.
An ESIC company can have up to 20 non-sophisticated investors per financial year, and we have 15 slots available.

Ideally looking for people who have things like EVs or a hybrid, or portable batteries from other things that might be usable.

Being an investor in an ESIC company gives you a 20% tax offset on anything invested (money, notional value of time and/or materials) and if the company becomes successful, no capital gains tax for the first 10 years.

Send me a DM if interested with some contact details and what you would like to bring to the table, and once relevant details are in place I can send out an offer document.

When are you looking at kicking this off? I'm probably going to be on the road on and off for while, maybe until August, but I have a full set of NiMh cells from the Vectrix I was lucky enough to score. I know nothing of their condition at the moment as I've been flat out getting my motorhome ready to travel as well as preparing a trailer for my new MG4 51EV ..... I also have an MG4 with the 64 kWh NMC battery pack, still in the vehicle, but I could be interested in removing it for an interesting project ....

Any help to your plans?

T1 Terry

EDIT: I also have a 2008 Prius that is off the road at the moment, but wouldn't require a lot of work to get it back on the road ..... but needs a battery ..... a possible plug in hybrid trial machine?

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the interest

A pity you don't have 2 full sets of Vectrix Nimh cells (30Ah cells made by GP) - 168 cells could go in your 2008 prius.
The booster setup really only works when the EV or hybrid has a working battery that always stays in the car.

I'm not familiar with the 64 kWh NMC pack out of the MG4 - are they in a module size that could be plausibly lifted by hand? and a cell count 12 to 14 or 6 or 7?
If so, you might be onto a winner

cheers,
Matt

The NMC 64 battery pack is still under the MG4, so I don't have any idea either at the moment ...... though I'm led to believe they are a modular design ......

From this post , the MG5 LFP battery is 6 modules with a total of about 350kg, so that's some 55kg per module, allowing a very rough 20kg for the case, BMS, etc. I guess that's handleable with strong workers.

From memory, and I can't quickly find a photo, the MG4 NMC packs are 9 modules, and a roughly similar weight, so that would be lighter.

One of the ZS EV batteries is 18 modules:

So at least they all seem to be split into modules, just with different numbers of modules.
