Most definitely, but there will always be a fond place in people's hearts for the noise of the internal combustion engine, unreliability and all. The more ICE blow ups, the better the crowd loves it, especially Top Fuel drag racing. They have always been special construction engines, so as long as the money keeps flowing their way, they will continue to be a spectacle.
I'd love to see head to head racing in all the classes between EV and ICE power, with the handicaps placed on EV's removed

Road registered EV's Not at Willowbank Raceway race track in Queensland, at least for the time being.

The reasons quoted, are a bit ridiculous.

All the more entertaining that we were able to race our home-made electric motorcycles there 10 years ago.

Full statement from Willowbank here. Really sad, i was just bench racing with a mate who has a 7l Pontiac something and he really appreciated me telling him my XC40 was faster....

Prior to reading this we agreed to do the next street vehicle event till I found this statement.

Really!
flammable gas? door handles? and Hybrids are fine?

Is it worth a letter from AEVA Motorsport to challenge?

They're just sick of being pwned by EVs.

We hope to organize a webinar hosted by EV Firesafe early in the new year and we can get all of the racing officials and marshals, as well as naysayers and well-wishers in one place where they can learn about why this decision is just stupid.

And yes, a 'please explain' is in order...

According to the local paper they are taking the same action as the US and UK Racetracks.
The issue with doors locking has been around for 30 or so years, had a Holden leave the road and crash into our driveway (1 of many) and rolled over, the driver was rescued and immediately after all the doors locked and could not be opened, nowadays we should have a glass breaker.
Its not that difficult to remove a fuse to disable the central locking before a race on a track.

Electric vehicles require specific fire suppression systems such as a water bath ....
What do these people use for logic, they want to fully immerse an EV in water to contain a fire  How can they allow Nitromethane, high level oxygenating fuels, nitros-oxide, methanol and other fuels they can't fire control, but electric cars that shut down their battery pack and unlock the doors for the occupants to get away from the crash scene are not allowed ..... something doesn't sound right, maybe a deeper look into funding that might be guiding these decisions .....

I have a better story - when I was a teenager, a drunk driver crashed into our neighbour's front yard, and tried to flee by getting out and slamming the door shut. Unfortunately for him, he locked the door from the inside and slammed it shut on his fingers, effectively cuffing him in place. Police arrived about 10 minutes later and took him in...

I can't see the Bathurst crowd turning up for a quiet event - only to be woken up by the sound of the odd crash 😎.
Perhaps those speedshop sponsors would be replaced by software development companies 🤔

I'm sure all the manufacturers will come up with an Ioniq 5 N set up, so it sounds like an ICE car, and maybe some of the support racers could be open to ICE powered vehicles and EVs with a short enough distance for a long range battery pack to get it from start to finish.

I doubt the racing drivers club would be behind that, embarrassment to the max I would think ..... but maybe not, the battery pack weight could be an issue .....
