Elanga charging network

Post by coulomb »

I finally found the web site detailing Elanga's network. It is presently cleverly :?: hidden under a tab in "My Account".

https://map.elanga.com.au/

As of this post, they have three 22 kW AC EVSEs in Maleny (inland a bit from Queensland's Sunshine Coast), and one 7 kW EVSE in the Gold Coast (possibly at their headquarters). The map appears to show availability status, though it's not clear if that's dynamic (in use) or just is it out of service / not yet commissioned.

The map does not mention the Calamvale Central Shopping Centre, where I found AC and DC chargers being installed (see this topic).

So it's a small network so far; we'll see if it grows to become a significant player.

Edit: I found that the map goes fairly wild if you zoom out far enough; 4 show in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and if you click/zoom on those, you eventually see dozens of entries that are obviously spurious.

I wonder about the wisdom of a charger in Maleny .... after the big climb up that hill the battery would be well drained, but recharging at the top and then going back down the hill would seriously reduce the capacity for regen braking down that mega hill ...... the poor Kombi was back to second gear and threatening it wanted 1st gear climbing up that hill

Oh, yet another charging network! That's exactly what we need.

It’s obviously logical to site a truck stop at the top of a hill…….but an EV charging facility for someone stretching it - a warning might be appropriate.

Or a fast charger in the small town just before the big hill, top up enough to get up the hill or top up after the run down the hill rather than charging in Maleny if they plan to come back down that big hill rather than continue on to the surrounding area .....

A fast top up charger would go well at the top of the climb out of Adelaide, it would reduce the range anxiety for those with a lower range battery pack.

Yep. And you need either an app or an RFID card to use it.

There is a similar installation nearly ready at Sunnybank Plaza. Still southside of Brisbane, but a little north of Calamvale Central.

I came across an Elanga charger today, but didn't use it because firstly I had plenty of charge from the NRMA charger nearby, and secondly because I would have had to download "YACA" ie Yet Another Charging App. Looking at the comments on the Android app prior to download I saw it had some negative comments in the list which were quite explicit about the app failures. I saw there was an online web version so I checked that out. https://map.elanga.com.au/ had a button "Register" which leads to https://elangatech.poweredbyvirta.com/ which says "404 page not found". I'm not impressed by that sort of poor web coding.

As an addendum, while Plugshare shows 3 sites in Maleny under Elanga, the Elanga app shows none. Perhaps somebody local could see if Plugshare needs updating?
