BATTERIES FOR MY BLADES

Post by Randall679 »

OK, Brains Trust ... I need two or more sets of batteries for my two Blade Electrons.

These originally had Thunder Sky, but I am not precious about originality. If there are battery packs or replacements for other EVs that would do, I'll consider them.

I'm also thinking of either getting higher capacity for range, or turning them into two-seaters with a flat cargo area and batteries forward of the rear wheels.

I would like them to already be connected in sets ... it's such a pain in the arse to put them together.

I might get three sets, because I'm sure to find another. I live in Castlemaine where they were "born" and there is a thought in the back of my mind of starting an EV museum ... maybe import a Baker Electric from the US and try and snare one of the 16 EV Commodores if they're still around.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

The new LFP cells tend to be metal case, so much smaller volume (and lighter) but needs spacers as their cases are electrically live.

Both NMC and LFP modules are available fairly cheaply, out of production EVs.

LFP modules would have to be imported, as the ones the right physical size aren't sold in EVs locally. There's several suppliers on Alibaba, Yaste is a good one I've heard
NMC modules can be had out of leaf, and others, though I would avoid Tesla due to physical module dimensions.

If you get a third one, you could try different chemistries. LFP, LTO and sodium ion, to see how they compare and to give a different mix of battery power in basically the same type of vehicle. Anyone who has owned a Blade would know there aren't two the same anyway, so there no such thing as building one to the original specs

The LFP and Sodium ion are sort of close in the battery upper and lower limits, the LTO is a bit of a world of its own, I would have thought the new "hybrid" battery CATL is bring out would work well in one of these, no idea about how to get hold of them though ....

OK, Blade runners ... I'm getting serious about some new batteries for two Blades.

Are there some off-the-shelf blocks of Lithium batteries from other EV marques that I can purchase and drop in? I'm not precious about authenticity ... in fact, I think keeping ahead of the game is a better objective.

I know it was mentioned here before ... I think it was LEAF ... but I can't seem to find it.

Come on, people ... before I find something better to waste my money on!

Tesla 3 LFP modules would probably fit under the chasis like the mkV blades did
