Lexus GS450h donor

Post by T1 Terry »

I'm looking at options to use the GS450h transmission package Phil is very generously giving me, still with a car wrapped around it so I get all the wiring harnesses etc.
There is a well documented conversion using the "Zombiverter" replacement control board in the 450 inverter and direct battery feed into the high voltage side so the current is no longer limited and the upper voltage is 650vdc, but no requirement to go that high. In this conversion, the input shaft is locked so the MG 1 (motor/generator) can add to the power produced by the MG 2 motor.

I'm toying with using the whole of the Lexus package, V6 ICE and the hybrid 2 speed 2 motor transmission using the Zombiverter controlled inverter and locking the flywheel on the V6 (yes, it does actually have one) for 100% EV use but having the V6 still there as a hybrid charger/assist if needed.

The proposed vehicle to be converted is a 10 mtr motorhome that has a V10 petrol/LPG ICE and a 6 sp Alison auto. If I limit the total torque to the equivalent of the V10 and direct drive the 6 sp Alison (no inverter), I'm looking at keeping the LPG and adapting it to the V6 Lexus engine so if I'm in an aera without recharging facilities, I could run the V6 to supply drive to MG1 to assist with power for MG2 and top up the battery as required .... it would also add to the total regen braking using compression braking as well with the LPG shut off ......

What am I missing here, I just have a feeling this sounds too easy/logical to actually work ........ Is it possibleMG1 & MG2 could over power the V6 ICE and spin it backwards rather than driving the vehicle forward under high load?

Hey terry, I am doing the same with a gs450h controlled with zombieverter.

I am going to fully convert a gt86.

Not sure what stage you are at with the zombieverter solution, but I have had success with it to get the motor turning.

The most difficult part I imagine will come when trying to integrate the new drivetrain system into the existing canbus system in my car, to keep the VSC and TRC happy which will be a requirement for road legality. Would be keen to work together in the future if we are having issues.

Welcome to the forum Thomas. I have the Lexus GS450h sitting in my workshop yard that Phil very generously gave to me ..... but that is as far as I've progressed.
After our house burnt to the ground, 15 mths after a workshop burnt to the ground, live has taken a few steps back while I assess just which way forward is at the moment.
We are living in a Winnebago motorhome on the slab where our workshop was .... and a few weeks back the council told us we can't live here any more because it is zoned as a commercial property .... so, I have around 4 weeks to finish getting the Winnie ready for life on the road with a shake down trip to the Everything Electric show in Sydney .... from there, I'll know if I'm going ahead with repowering the Winnie with the V6 and hybrid transmission out of the Lexus .... or if I'll use it to repower a 2001 Mercedes I bought cheap with a knock in the engine.

Please start a thread with some photos and info about your L110 hybrid drive upgrades, I need some inspiration to get back into the project and your project sounds like the sort of thing that will get me back on track ....
