Edison Motors

Post by alpham1ke »

I'm looking to build a 1000km range 3.5t tow capability 4wd that I can permanently leave all my camping gear in for driving around town...

Anyway, having pressed those buttons, Edison Motors are developing their 'pickup kit' with e-axles for the drive line, battery, and... An ICE with generator. Yep, series hybrid, but not homebrew. 2.8 turbo diesel.

In all seriousness, even a short full electric range would cover anything for me around town, electric power delivery would be great for the tracks, and it seems the overall efficiency would be an improvement on the current drivetrain.

Thoughts from the crowd?

Welcome! And that's a very broad set of parameters to work with. Probably best to come up with a project scope and whittle it down from there.

You know you can't simply buy any of this gear? It is all tied up through dealer networks in Canada and the USA .... and those two seem to be at war with each other at the moment ...... You can't just buy a kit and install it yourself, their dealer network must do the full installation ...... and they aren't even being manufactured at the moment ....

My thoughts, look for another supplier, probably Chinese, they will sell to anyone ;)

that is not quite true Edison Motors will sell you a kit when they are in production and the kit will be 2 2motor diffs, battery and controller and some other stuff but none of it is being done just yet
If you don't have time to do it right,
When will you have time to do it over

Help those who help themselves first

Thanks for the thoughts. Seems the integration of ICE and generator to battery/HV system is part 1 of their value proposition, and right size e-axles.

Maybe recent events will have them prioritising some alternate markets.
