CATL batteries free to a Good home

Post by antiscab »

Hi All,

I'm in Darwin for the next couple of days, and Hitachi Energy have a couple of surplus CATL 166V 280Ah LFP batteries that have some dead cells.
Located in East Arm.
I haven't seen the internals, but if there's anyone local interested I'm sure they would be happy to see them go to a good home.

Battery dimensions: 1150 long, 800 wide, 260 deep
pallet/shipping dimensions: 1300 X 1040 X 450

If they're still here after I leave, I'll probably look into transporting them to Perth.

Francess might need a new home storage battery...

I'm sure there's at least 16 of these for a home storage battery?

When you say a couple, are there only 2 available? I was thinking I might be able build up a good battery for the planned Lexus GS450h conversion with them ....

These batteries were originally offered to Charles Darwin University if it aligned with their research (I hadn't realized there was a research aspect when I posted this up)
CDU doesn't presently have anything that does align, but I've proposed a few things I would like to research - all BMS and multi-level inverter related as I am incidentally doing some research.

There are 2 x CATL 166 V 280 Ah nominal batteries with some dead cells - these are probably ideal for battery replacement for a 144v nominal EV conversion. They would be Energy storage grade I suspect, rather than EV grade. Not sure what research angle I would propose there though.
There's also 6 x Samsung SDI modules which I believe are 22s 130 Ah NMC though will have to confirm - these ones are probably more relevant to the research I'm doing and probably align more so with Hitachi's interests.

There's also the logistical challenge of shipping them from Darwin

Well Matt if you are the conduit to access them, keep us posted. I reckon home storage is the better option for these cells, but the R&D condition is a bit silly given we all know exactly what these cells are capable of.
Cheers,

Thanks Matt, if there were more than 2, then it would be viable to spread the freight cost over each battery.
