New motor/transmission noise

Post by johc »

My 2015 i3 REx has suddenly developed a new whining noise which is closely related to vehicle speed. It is absent at rest but increases in pitch and volume with increasing vehicle speed. Two visits to BMW Sydney have been unhelpful. The first time they heard the noise but could not identify it, the second time the noise had "gone", according to them, but, according to me, it returned immediately on leaving the dealership. The car has done about 90,00 km and is otherwise driving as normal. Any suggestions ??

Try and get an oil sample from the transaxle. If its black and got metal shavings, you have a case to be heard.

Thanks for that suggestion. I will mention it on my next visit to BMW Sydney, which will be sooner rather than later.
