I believe that the Axpert VM IIs are similar to the PIP-5048MS, except for the MPPT voltage and a few changes to make them economy models. So, presumably similar in ways that are important for fault code 51, "Over current or surge". On the PIP-5048MS (etc) index page, there are five links to posts about that fault code, which might give you some clues. My particular theory (per one of the five sets of posts), is that the MOVs' conduction voltage decreases as they absorb energy, and replacing them might fix the problem. I have links to suitable replacement parts for the PIP-5048MS; with reasonable luck these might be the same parts as in the Axpert VM II.

Are you in a lightning prone area?

[ Edit: "PIP-5048s" -> "PIP-5048MS" (more specific, less confusion). ]
Nissan Leaf 2012 with new battery May 2019.
5650 W solar, 2xPIP-4048MS inverters, 16 kWh battery.
1.4 kW solar with 1.2 kW Latronics inverter and FIT.
160 W solar, 2.5 kWh 24 V battery for lights.
Patching PIP-4048/5048 inverter-chargers.

Error code 51 is "Over current or surge". Could it be some device starting up with a high surge current, putting the inverter into overload for just a short time? I'm not totally convinced that we always get to use the 100% overload for 10 seconds thing.

Or does it not come back on when restarted?

I suggest using the forum search to search on "error 51" without the quotes. There many posts about this in other topics.

I switched all (MOV) but the problem was not solved
