Limited Kona Electric Floor mat options in Oz

Post by nudist »

I want heavy duty rubber mats for my new Kona EV and the local Canberra dealer says these are not available yet just the carpeted variety of mat which doesn't excite me much. I phoned Hyundai Australia and asked them when they expected stock to which they replied 'we are not planning to stock these ever'. I told the rep that I knew for a fact that their sister company in the UK does stock the more rugged rubber mats so there is no reason why the local company can't follow suite.
So I'm planning to bypass the local folks and to buy a set of 4 genuine Kona EV mats advertised on Ebay UK. Is there any reason why mats for a UK Kona won't fit a Australian Kona model? Btw the mats have holes that accept locator pins on the floor that stop them from sliding around. Any help appreciated

How about making your own from the studded rubber mat sold by the meter at Clarks Rubber. Go to your Hyundai dealer with sheets of cardboard, take the template from the carpet ones including holes and all, Done.
Not as fancy but probably much cheaper.

A bit of lateral thinking. Not sure the dealer would let me do that.

Fair comment. If still interested I receive my Kona with carpet all around early to mid September. If you are close enough to Melbourne you are welcome to use mine as the template. But as you said, at about AU$150 delivered for genuine ones on eBay... Is it worth it.
Cheers,
Patrick

The dealer should treat you like royalty since you spent many thousands of dollars with them. It costs them nothing to be helpful to you since they could not sell you the product you wanted. They should see it as in investment in you telling your friends how helpful they were.

I used vee rubber matting from Clark Rubber. The wider at 1500mm meant rear could be done in once piece. Downside is that is tricky and the fumes are problematic- so only out in mats when on holiday. Needed just 1.25m of 1500mm wide version.
