Zoe servicing

Post by Renno »

Hi, all

My Zoe is coming up for its first service.
I believe Melville Renault is the only dealership that is able to service the electric Zoe in Perth.
Has anyone had their Zoe serviced there?
Are there any other options?
I don't think there is much involved if the car is running well, and mine is doing fine.
There were a few Zoe's (including mine) sold through Wanneroo Jeep 12 months ago when they decided to discontinue in Australia, so I guess there would be a few others who will be looking around for servicing options like me.

Thanks!

Any qualified mechanic can service your Zoe.

It's all inspection items. Even the 12v battery replacement can wait until it's actually dead (you'll know because the car starts doing weird things when the 12v battery dies)
I do mine myself, and just take pictures of wear components to document that it got checked.
Any mechanic could do the check, it's only if something actually doesn't work that it really needs to go back to the dealer

I'm at 95k km at the moment. Brake pads are barely worn, and tyres I use the place around the corner

Service & maintenance schedule
The maintenance schedule must be maintained during the warranty period and for cars with hired batteries this must continue beyond.

The service schedule on a Zoe is:
Every 1 year or 18,000 miles - Pollen filter change and alternate between an A or B inspection
Every 3 years - Replace 12V auxiliary battery
Every 54,000 miles - Check and remove dust from brake linings
Every 4 years or 72,000 miles - Replace brake fluid
Every 5 years or 90,000 miles - Replace coolant
Every 6 years - Check and top-up refrigerant
The A inspection consists of:

Check the levels, condition and sealing of the brake circuit
Check the exterior lighting and signals
Check the condition and sealing of the shock absorbers
Check condition and pressure of the tyres and road wheel security
Check the presents of the wheel valve caps
Check the wear of the brake discs and pads
Check the wiper blades and screen washer fluid level
Check the 12V battery with test tool
Check the computers with the diagnostic tool
Reinitialise the maintenance service display
Documentation and positioning of the maintenance label
The B inspection adds the following to the above:

Check the interior lighting
Anti-corrosion check
Check and lubricate the bonnet lock
Check the levels, condition and sealing of the coolant circuit
Check the condition and sealing of the gaiters, rubber mountings, ball joints and shock absorbers
Check the condition of the windscreen and door mirrors
Check the presence of the airbag and engine compartment labels
Check the operation of the instrument panel warning lights

Reset service counter:
1. put key in slot.
2. press start button (no foot on brake, just wake car but not start).
3. Press upper stalk button until you get to service message on dash. Then repeatedly press top button until you go full circle of messages back to service message.
4. Now press and hold bottom column button. After S few seconds the service message will begin to flash. Keep holding until the service message resets.
5. Now start the car with start button and foot on brake.

Thanks!
I will take it to Melville Renault for it's first service and see how it goes from there.
I'm hoping to keep servicing costs as low as possible and to stay away from the dealers unless absolutely necessary.
I appreciate the info and advice.
Cheers.

Hi Antiscab,
I'm truly impressed at how many km you have done in Zoe. Perhaps an Australian record?
Also thanks for the service reset hint. Did not know that one. I've got CanZE which will also reset it (and other DTCs if required).

Our Zoe started complaining today that a service was due, so I dropped into the local mechanic and asked them if they were happy to do it. They had not had a BEV in before but he seemed interested in getting some experience and was willing to sign off on the service logbook, so it gets done on Friday. Have printed off the service schedule for them that antiscab posted above, so should be simple enough. Will also give him a basic rundown of what to look out for, he already knew the basics, which was a good sign.

As long as there is nothing wrong, it should be quite easy for them. There are the similar mechanicals as with an ICE and the ECUs and DTCs would have plenty of parallels.

Yes, he seemed aware that EVs are going to be more common in the near future, and the Zoe is pretty simple, so probably a good place to start. Given we are in rural NW Tassie and probably have the only EV in Ridgley and surrounds (there's one or two in Burnie), he will be a step ahead of most other mechanics around here.

Ha, they just dropped the Zoe off with the servicing bill for $80, which included the tyre rotation. They couldn't really find anything to do on it, kind of felt sorry for them, they must be thinking that their business might be in trouble in a few years. At least they will still get plenty of suspension repair work from the crappy roads here in NW Tas.

Better than my bill for $380 which included tyre rotation, deodorising the aircon system, replacing the aircon filter and documenting the tyre and brake wear.

I don't think they deodorise cars here in rural NW Tassie, there's no point, given many people around here are farmers and many vehicles are work vehicles. He mentioned that he talked to the Repco rep about a filter for it and was told that there isn't one, of course, we know that's not correct, so I let him know that Repco list them, but I said I will do it next year or whenever.

First time I have ever had an "aircon deodorise" on any car in a couple of million kilometres and 57 years of driving. call it a subsidy of the old world!
