That truck

Post by Nagaman »

Watching the HyperChange pre-presentation, I noticed the WA Tesla club asked about the massive ramp up in SA’s battery storage backup infrastructure.......apparently Horsley was instrumental in keeping Queensland lights on during the fires.
It’s quite amusing to note the complete camouflage job the conservatives have done on this escaping news.
Let’s keep the embarrassing exposure going for all our sakes.

Do you have a link to the connection between the Horsley battery and keeping the Qld grid up and functioning? I'd love to jam that down the throat of an antagonist on another forum. I think he is a PR spin doctor for the coal fired and gas fired power stations and anti renewable energy and battery back up.

It has it’s own inbuilt ramp in the tailgate for a ATV which can plug into the bed and recharge.

I'm not so sure, Rivian would have to sharpen their pencils a lot before they sell them. The tesla starts at $40,000usd and works up to $70k, the rivian is meant to start from $70,000usd

Yeah the price is pretty impressive. But impressive enough? Time will tell. The concept is growing on me I have to say.

The biggest flaw I see is the sides of the tray. Its not exactly work friendly so I think it'll lose out on a lot of fleet/commercial customers and people who actually use their ute as a ute.
Also people don't like change, this looks different...

Also also, if the body panels are so tough how's it going to go with crumple zones and pedestrian safety etc?

Also, also, also "but it doesn't have a chassis so it's a soccer mums car and you can't take it off road"

No soccer mom would buy this

Kudos for the exoskeleton concept though. Maybe that's why it's cheap despite the exotic materials?

I doubt it would pass crash testing requirements or even headlight standards without serious changes.

What if the crumple zones are all internal? That way you only have to slow the deceleration of the passenger compartment rather than the whole vehicle.

With the reduced mass, you could go a step further and have a resettable crumple zone.

I can’t see any form of pedestrian safety in the design or materials used.

I know this is an old thread but this a million times.

I'm *still* seeing people harp on and on about pedestrian safety...

It's not like there's already a tonne of NEW vehicles on the road with massive front ends on them, like trucks, vans and the the like.
We've also had a recent upsurge of ridiculously huge american vehicles. I believe in Qld this is driven by the change to towing laws - you cannot upgrade suspension for increased towing capacity.

I honestly don't know if I'd rather be hit by a F650 or a Cybertruck but I can tell you it wont end well in either scenario.

Well in theory there's less chance of the Cybertruck hitting you with all the safety doodads and better braking...
In a f650 you're luckily if you get braking performance equivalent to a stick rubbing on the back wheel, gokart style.

Totally fair.

Disclaimer: I have a cybertruck preordered so I'm more than a little biased.

Prevention is better than a cure and avoiding accidents is definitely the way to go but not all can be avoided unfortunately.

If it wasn't for our towing restrictions I highly doubt we would be seeing such a surge in absurd vehicles
