Reservations are available in-store from next Thursday with the official launch presentation live stream and on-line ordering available the following day (April Fools day) in our timezones.

The fully refundable deposit will cost AUD$1,500 and with a USD$35k base price I expect the drive-away price in AUD to be somewhere between $50k and $60k depending on what our exchange rate is like in a couple of years.

I wish we had a store over here in Perth....
Looks like I'll have to jump on the web in Friday instead.

Just reserved one. I suspect I will take advantage of the refund sometime in the next 3 years, but it wasn't earning much interest at the moment so why not.

I worked out it's a $500 a fortnight saving regime. Tough, but not impossible. Although that could be a house deposit... Hopefully the dollar improves by the start of 2018.

I've got the cash, just a matter of deciding its worth putting so much into a rapidly depreciating asset, especially when I get around by bicycle most days.

Here is a link from today , showing some pics.

I must admit, I originally plonked a deposit down expecting the first Model S to be a lot cheaper than they were, so I got my deposit back, and now I expect the 3 will be over $60k by the time it arrives. If it arrives even $1 under $60k it will sell well.

The Bolt , the only other +200 mile range vehicle on the horizon, is not expected to sell in RHD , (although a rumour has started that it might change that decision soon) . An enquiry I made to Holden, via email, revealed no intention to bring the GM Bolt to Australia at this point.

Pics look good for the Tesla model 33.

I already have a Volt for long distance, and it is paid off next month.

The 3 is tempting...I like the styling.

Just joined the queue.

Deposit paid.

Like the lines, hope it arrives before mid 2019.

Keeping the Volt, and will add the model 3, which will be the main drive.

Dashboard not too fond of, specifically no cluster in front or driver.

Otherwise, pretty happy.

Guess the Model 3 will fill the gap by gm , not marketing the Bolt or Volt - so unavailable in Australia at this time.

I put down a deposit online in the lead up to the stream.
The wait time (I estimate 3 years) will be useful for us to put the money together.

Absolutely love the look of it - I think the interior needs to evolve a little, but there's plenty of time for that.

It's a very exciting vehicle indeed. 250,000+ place holder orders in the space of two days is just incredible.

I put a deposit down after seeing it for the first time. Given it will take at least 2.5 years, it gives me plenty of time to save. Plus if I change my mind I'll have a stack of savings to spend on the CRX project ☺.
Tha 3 is a beautiful looking car, and while I'd be content with the Bolt, I suspect the 3 will be here sooner.

They have said the steering/dash arrangement is not final, and the central screen will make sense when they show us the rest of the "spaceship style" cockpit.

I've also put my deposit down. Going by guesstimated prices I am expecting to get a relatively low-end model!

I was interviewed by Radio National this morning for Blueprint for Life, a show about prettymuch anything from 9 am Saturday mornings. Michael wanted to interview me as I'd put a deposit down on a Model 3, but we talk quite generally about EVs too.

I always said I have a face for radio Image

Well, I have joined the mob panicked!
Here's a link to a enthusiasts tracker https://model3tracker.info/public_graphs_world_map.php
I was number 7 in Perth for this tracker but about 375000 on the reservations list.
I am very interested in the Nissan competitor though. So will wait and see.
My abandonment of the LEAF pains me and need this security blanket for a pure electric car again!
Meantime I can dream about colour.

A guestimation of the cost of a Tesla Model 3 as of April 2016

Note: the AU$ risen quickly to 0.77 after a steady 0.72

USA CA no ORC
70RWD $71,500
70AWD $76,500
90D $89,500
P90D $109,500

AU WA no taxes and no ORC
70RWD $113,600
70AWD $121,100
90D $141,509
P90D $171,500

Multiplier from US$ ( CA ) to AU$ ( WA )
70RWD is 1.5888
70AWD is 1.5830
90D is 1.5811
P90D is 1.5662
ignoring the P90D variant yields an average of 1.5843 ratio

AU luxury tax from $75375 at 30% from threshold on fuel efficient cars
WA tax sliding after LuxCarTax added!
2.75% < $25 000
Sliding 2.75 + (25000/6666.66) for between $25k and $50k
6.5% above $50k

Guestimate Model 3 US$ CA to AU$ WA
   US$ | Multiplier 1.5843 | LuxCarTax | WA Stamp Duty |   ORC   | Guestimate AU$
30000 |       $47,529      +        0       +       $2913        + $672 =    $51,114
35000 |       $55,450      +        0       +       $3604        + $672 =    $59,727
40000 |       $63,372      +        0       +       $4119        + $672 =    $68,163
45000 |       $71,294      +        0       +       $4634        + $672 =    $76,600
50000 |       $79,215      +    $1152    +       $5224        + $672 =    $86,263
55000 |       $87,136      +    $3528    +       $5893        + $672 =    $97,229
60000 |       $95,058      +    $5905    +       $6563        + $672 =   $108,198

Prices will vary according to the AUD vs USD exchange rate

EDIT:   I think this will influence the Opel BOLT equivalent and a new Nissan LEAF pricing.

Thanks for the calculations there photomac.

There's no mention of GST in your pricing?

I hope that Tesla don't just do a straight conversion and look at how affordable the "affordable car" really will be for the average Australian!
