Interesting that the major car companies are now having to defend their choice not to deliver a full electric vehicle. The fact that the i3 could have travelled 150 mile running the range extender doesn't actually answer the problem as the trip was 280 miles and both cars were a type of hybrid, so a cat 3 charging station and fuel refill would have been required to complete the trip. Not a 1/2 wait while recharging to 80% is a game changer, often an hr is lost during a fuel stop in a standard ICE vehicle, but that is after more than 400 mile, not 150 mile, so the choice of town car for a 280 mile trip is not something most people would consider a smart choice in the first place.

I think it's a case of the car companies trying to get a return on investment for the research, development and production of a technology that they now believe to be surpassed by the capabilities of a pure BEV.
