Thermal Pad Suppliers

Post by necrogt4 »

Does anyone know of any companies or brands selling thermal pads suitable for battery cooling systems?

I've got some wildly different quotes/prices and am trying to sort the BS from the legit.

U-Sheen, who make the epoxy I sent over, also do silicone based pads. 2 mm thick and any size you want. Not cheap, but probably about average:

"The price for your reference, 8 W (sic) silicone thermal pad 580 mm x 350 mm x 2mm is USD181.5
My advice is to ask the customer for specific requirements, since high thermal conductivity is more expensive."

8 W/m.K is impressively high thermal conductivity for a polymer.

I'm actually waiting on a quote back from them. But that price seems pretty reasonable to be honest. And in almost exactly the right size too.

I had some quotes at 3mm thick for 12w/m.k at $90 USD but that seems a little hard to believe. :P

Cheapest reasonably good thermal pad I found was at https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32869172771.html although smaller than you may want. They may do larger sizes, worth asking.

Ok, so I've got a whole bunch of quotes now. Keep in mind these are all USD.

For reference I am looking for three pads in the following dimensions
  • 1 x 600mm x 300mm x 3mm
  • 2 x 500mm x 300mm x 3mm
I was originally looking at 12W/mK though that proved to be either prohibitively expensive or warily cheap. Case in point was $84 for 500x300x3 and $98 for 600x300x3 and this was for 12W/mK. Freight was $110. All up $376 USD for a whooping 12W/mK.

I got a little worried when a number of other suppliers quoted $300-400 USD for a single sheet in 600x300x3. Seems like it was too good to be true.

I did get what seems to be legit quotes from two suppliers who's english doesn't suddenly get confusing when asking questions about "Why are you soo much cheaper than others?".

DSN Thermal Solutions (www.thermalgraphite.com)
  • 12W/mK thermal pad, 400x300x3mm, $368
  • 8W/mK thermal pad, 400x300x3mm, $74
  • 6W/mK thermal pad, 400x300x3mm, $42
Not the exact dimensions I need but nothing a bit of cutting can't fix. These pads are a shore 00 hardness of 65.

U-SHEEN (www.sheenthermal.com):
  • 10W/mK, 300x600x3mm, $268
  • 7W/mK, 300x600x3mm, $115
Shore 00 hardness is 50 for the 7W and 70 for 10W. Freight is $110 but only to a business address.

So U-SHEEN and DSN are pretty close on price though U-SHEEN is a little softer at 7W but DSN is slightly more conductive. Either way both seem like good options.

Necrogt4, is it possible for you to have each of these suppliers send you small sample pieces of these products for testing / inspection?

Also wondering if these few sheets would travel without damage that could make them unusable?
