iMiEV wouldn't go to Ready

Post by zzcoopej » Tue, 09 Dec 2014, 18:29

Incase this happens to someone else, today I stopped to buy some beer, on return to the car while balancing the slab I pressed the boot release a few times as it never seems to work. Finally worked.
Hopped in the car and the blue warning light down below the dash was flashing more than usual. Tried getting the car in Ready but it refused. I noticed that the mirrors had folded in (probably due to 3 presses of boot button?) so I tried folding out but still no Ready. I decided to try again from scratch. I hopped out, locked the door (this time with the remote rather than the door button), unlocked and got back in. This time all ok. What weird mode did I get myself into? I think the car somehow thought it had been broken into and refused to go to Ready! Has anyone had this happen?

Yep I have got mine into a weird state a couple of times.

The blue LED is connected to the immobiliser module under the passenger seat. It appears to not be factory fitted but more a factory option fitted here. Is yours a 2010?...If so have you activated the alarm function?

My Dad's 2010 wouldn't goto ready after charging at the UWA DC fast charger.
I hopped in turned the "key" and nothing happened, used the key fob to lock and unlock the car a few times and it went to ready.

Hmmm... I wonder if anyone would want to steal an iMiEV? I'm not a big fan of alarms as 9 times out of 10 its a false alarm. Don't think I'll bother, if you've activated your alarm do you find any annoying issues with it or is it set & forget?

The alarm is only triggered on entry of doors, boot or bonnet. There is no volumetric sensing inside so the likelihood of false triggering is virtually nil....

Any idea about how this works for the 2012 model? (Sorry, I still don't have an owners manual.) The specs say "Anti-theft encrypted engine immobiliser" is Standard so I'm guessing I've got it. But no idea how to use it. The post referred to above gives a method for 2010 but users posted it doesn't work for 2012 (I'll repost this there in case someone is still monitoring that thread).

the only time the car wouldn't go to ready was when I left it in drive...

I've had the same problem a few times with our 2010. I thought it was caused by locking with the remote then unlocking with the door button, but turns out it can happen without using the remote. Turning off and on again seems to fix it sometimes, but also seemed to need locking and unlocking with the remote.
The red battery warning lamp always stays on until the ready mode, so the first time it happened I thought the car was telling me the aux battery was flat. Now I'm used to it, its just a minor hassle.

Thanks guys for confirming that its a quirk of the car and not me. Since this post I'm actually finding that the drivers door button is very reliable, however the boot button hardly ever unlocks the car for me (to me the boot button just seems to just try to lock the car each time I press it). Its a pity as its when I have my hands full with stuff for the boot that it would be most useful.

The small button on the boot is for locking only. To unlock from the boot, just open it. The main handle is an electric switch which also unlocks the car so long as the remote is in range. (Took me a while to figure this out too).

Thanks mate, that makes perfect sense and explains what I was experiencing, lol. Kinda un-intuitive that the doors operate differently from each other but once you know, its even better as that button is hard to locate.
I guess my sequence was not working as i pressed what is now the "lock only" button and then tried to open the door using the handle which probably has its "unlock" feature disabled due to just pressing lock (for those who like to check their doors are infact locked.)
When the car comes home I'm going to re-read the manual and see how I missed that difference.
Thanks again, looking forward to loading in the next slab of beer now! Glad I asked.

I wonder if these iMiEV accessories are still available?
