192 E63 LG Batteries (the ones Francisco is using) can be made to fit in a leaf battery box. I guess that makes the battery pack twice the original capacity.
Possibly premade packs. 10 packs x 18 batteries and 2 packs of 6 x batteries

Yeah for sure - the energy density of those cells is very impressive.

I'm just trying to find the quickest approach and I think prismatics would be it. I reckon you could also use 18650 cells and a Tesla-style cooling loop, but it's all just weeks and weeks of work. My aim is to swap them out in a day if possible.

In this video the guy explains how retaining the vehicle's original BMS was the easiest way to keep the vehicle's onboard computer happy.
So I might try and re-pack a Leaf battery with a new BMS and wiring, but have it so you can swap the BMS at the last minute.
Looks like this confirms the problem and provides the answer http://evsenhanced.com/products/hv-batt ... ring-tool/

I am not sure how his extender battery boxes would go in the sunny summers here but his experiments and CANbus knowledge would sure be a useful resource.

Going by what he said they are LG chem pouch cells that are "numpt" kwh
But the box says 170wh

They are probably the LG 63Ah.
They are the only cells that I know of that have the terminals on opposite sides. I have been looking for other pouch cells with terminals on opposite sides and I haven't been able to find any.

170wh at 3.6v (my guess is they are ncm cells because they use the original bms) is 47ah.
So 44kwh at 315v is 140ah that makes it 88s3p

At 3:33 on the video you can see the cells with a size reference and the text. I can't see the part numbers but they look exactly the same as the LG63 cells I have and if they are LG they will be the 63Ah because the 63Ah are the only cells LG makes that have the terminals on opposite sides.

I see 179 Wh on the side of the box, but yes I suspect they are the LG63 cells. A Leaf needs multiples of 96 of them.

So 96s2p of 3.6v 63ah cells gives 44kwh

Hi Guys, I hope the upgrade is all going well. Have just purchased 24kw version leaf and intend to do an upgrade, be it a direct replacement with a larger genuine pack with a man in the middle CAN BUS adaptor ( thats if I can source a battery ) or failing that I will try to build my own pack. Was wondering how progress is going with the LG cells ?

so he cut the cans open to replace the pouch cells

That looks like a lot more effort than I would have thought necessary

It may be easier than replacing the bus bars and BMS wiring. Less chance of making a wiring error also.

There should even be 6 mm of room in the middle of the new nodule for a cooling plate. To fix the display you could use this... https://www.tindie.com/products/muxsan/ ... rt-rev-25/ once you work out how to program it.
