Pocket Bike conversion

My daughter has a 49cc 2 stroke pocket bike. would a 24V 450w motor and a couple 12V 18AH SLA's be enough for her to ride for half an hour or so? would 450w be powerful enough?

49cc two stroke is about 6kw (if its a good quality one).
4 stroke 49cc is around 3.5kw.

on my moped, i use 60v, 70A for just shy of 4kw (when you take into account voltage sag).
Energy use depends on how fast you go. for me, with throttle full all the time, for half an hour (30km or so of riding), you need at least 20AH (usable) at 60v nominal for 60-70kmh.
for lithium you are looking at 30AH rated.
For lead acid, you need 40AH rated.

Conclusion: 450w will be absolutely gut-less when compared to a 50cc 2-stroke.

This is a super cheapo chinese import, they call it 49cc, but I reckon my 20+cc chainsaw has more grunt. I just looking for a quick throw together that'll at least move her along at 20+kph...

ah ok, so its more of a low power, non-road going type setup.
not sure i can give you a definate answer on this one.
you might try having a look at the endlessphere forums.

just note that 200w is the legal limit for un-licenced bikes.

Bloody ridiculous law.
A kid can do maybe 50kph on a BMX going to school but in S.A.I can anly do 25kph going to work and in W.A I believe you can only do 10kph!!
What's with that???

Seriously, I recon this is a cause the AEVA should persue. 500W would still be gutless but it would be usable. If they are worried about kids doing stupid things on them they should age restrict them. Not ban them.

In your state, perhaps.

Pocket-bikes are not allowed off of private property in NSW, and neither are electric scooters.

Here the 200w "law" applies only to electric-assist bicycles.
