Anyone want to guess what the possible maximum output of the new water cooled permanent magnet Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid motor?
The stated specs are 32kW 170Nm 240Vdc 1,800RPM.
It's a definite step up from the usual 10kW Honda hybrid motors that are commonly available.

So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Any indication this gear might become available for DIY conversions? The 1,800rpm might be an issue though, I thought electric motors worked better spinning fast than slow .....I guess it's all voltage related and the 32kW is only around the 150 amp current draw... if I did the sums right

Ah well the pictures above are of the one I have here in Perth if that helps...
Don't forget that as a hybrid the useful bit are the starting/stopping regions.
So the design on the Ioniq means that optimum peak power is at 1800 RPM.
It still spins as fast as the ICE engine it was connected to as they are inline.
So 240Vdc gets 1,800RPM 32kW.
Given a kV of 7.5 an aftermarket system running 400Vdc would be 3,000RPM and 53kW.
Which is ok for town driving given it still has 170Nm which is typical of a 1.6-2.0L petrol motor.
The Ioniq original battery pack outputs around 42kW I guess a 240V system it is around 175Adc on the battery side.
So counting for through losses the motor is about 150A as you say.
The motor is too well integrated to change the windings.
So for peak power at 4,500RPM(80kW) you'd need 600Vdc!
Which I think is a bit overboard.
So I'd think that this motor would suit something like a Lancer, Mazda 3, Corolla...
Assuming it was a town car and not for overtaking down the highway.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Ah, the photos didn't appear in your first post, just image icons that don't seem to open.
The 1800rpm would be good for something like a VN Commodore or EB/ED Falcon as they are geared for very low engine revs but way too heavy really to be practical as a conversion option.
The Ioniq comes out in hybrid and full EV models so maybe the full EV stuff might hit the market soon.

@T1 Terry, the images have always been visible here, not sure why you couldn't see them. You might want to try force-refreshing your browser (<ctrl><F5> on most PC browsers) and see if that makes any difference.

The hybrid and plugin use the same motor as above.
The full electric is different - wait 2-3 years you might see one.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Hi Rob, tried that but still no pictures. I use Internet Explorer IE11 if that's any help. I tried right click show pictures an the icon disappears and then reappears and copy picture doesn't transfer to paste in even Notepad so it's like there is nothing linked to the icon
Computers are certainly not my strong suite by a long shot, I'll be the first to admit that

Thanks Richard. As it would be much easier to transfer the whole motor and control system I'll wait to see what else comes on the market. I'm sure there will be a flood soon from China and the like as soon as some dismantlers realises there is a market in stripping out these components and selling them rather than trying to find a market where they can ship the complete vehicle.

@Rhills (Rob),
It seems to be a privileges thing. I tried testing out his privileges, and when I typed control-F5 the images went away.

Well I see them.
But as I mentioned to some I had some trouble getting the images here.
So it doesn't surprise me that others may not be able to see them.
Just to make it clear I still don't have the attachments tab in this thread in the full editor.
These are where the image files are (Space added after // to make the full address visible):
http:// forums.aeva.asn.au/download/file.php?id=575
http:// forums.aeva.asn.au/download/file.php?id=576
Is this where they normally go?!?
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Just did a search for the 575 image and the forum information window comes up with
The selected attachment does not exist anymore
So it looks like they must have ventured off into the ether or something

Can you see them if you log out? Near the top right corner.
It only seems to be affecting members (blue username).
@rhills, that should be a big clue.
Sorry for the slow resolution on this.

I had thought so too, however when I trawled through the permissions yesterday, I could find nothing that either gave or retracted permission to view images so it is a real mystery. As
@4springs is an AEVA Member and
@Richo is not, the problem seems to be independent of AEVA membership.

Yes, I also apologise for the slowness. It's a tricky diagnostic issue at a time when I don't have as much spare time to investigate it as it really needs.
