Yes. The motor goes directly to the IGBTs. The reason industrial inverters are so big are as follows:
1) Air cooled. Heat sink and fan use lots of space.
2) Mains filters. You have to filter 50Hz AC so big capacitors and inductors.
3) Input bridge rectifier. Almost same size as inverter output.
4) Weigh and space is not important.
