Dark horse because they are so damn ugly. Sorry owners, but it's a serious impediment to prospective buyers because looks do count.

Hey tt,

I totally agree about the looks. I struggled with them, even hated..... but still bought one 'coz its technically the best EV for my application IMHO.... until I can't yet buy a Tesla model S. Image even that simply uses far too much energy and I don't have enough PV and WT.

The other thing about the looks is that you have to put up with them, I only see the interior which is basic, like a tradies ute, but quite functional. Image

The iMiEV does does try to be different, unlike some EVs that pretend the future is just ICE look-alikes.

So damn ugly yes and damn great EV.
Drive one for a week if it can fit your lifestyle before you can it totally.
Mitsi dealers will give you their demo for a week, just tell them you are in the AEVA.
Maybe do it even if you can't stand the looks, just for the experience.
You can wear dark glasses and a duffle coat so nobody recognises you if you like !

they could be mistaken for the 660cc icar, we have a few in perth

they are imports

somehow the licensing dept register the imiev as an icar

acmotor you could argue that the iMiev is not trying to look different at all seeing as it is based on the I! Image

I think the iMiev looks ugly too but it is growing on me..
The Renault Zoe is a good looking little hatchback and if/when it gets here should be the cheapest EV on the market but then you don't own the whole car ever if they continue with the battery lease model.

I'm not convinced. I just logged on to the official Australian iMiev page, clicked through and chose the cheapest options (e.g. any colour you want, as long as it's white, else it costs $450 more).

"Manufacturer's recommended retail price $48,800"
"Manufacturer's recommended drive away price $52,433".

That's customised for Brisbane and RACQ insurance; the final price may vary a little. Model year 2012; I don't know if that's the latest available in Australia or not.

I suppose that's come down a way since the cars were first introduced some three (? maybe 2.5, please correct me) years ago.

I read somewhere that Australia would get no shipments of new models until all (?) the old stock was sold. This may be the impetus for the $29,990 - $35,000 actual prices seen recently. Someone may be taking a hit on these vehicles, but perhaps they see a financial advantage to selling these at a loss, to make way for whatever is coming soon. Or maybe someone realised that gee, maybe there have been enough global sales to pay the majority of the development cost, so now we don't need "early adopter" prices any more, and can still make money. Disclaimer: I know less than nothing about the vehicle industry, and am merely voicing some thoughts.

I'm not necessarily quoting RRP but the mean price on carsales
that company was selling their imiev for 51k while everyone else was sub 40

if you're willing to part with $51k, go for the Nissan Leaf $46990 driveaway in Perth Magic Nissan.

I've talked myself out of the leaf
a) steering too light
b) horizontal batteries
c) passive air cooling only

cool features in future leaf
a) 6.6 kw charging
b) locking charger port
c) light in the charge port
