Crazy offgrid System

Post by offgridQLD » Tue, 13 Oct 2015, 14:29

I came across this offgrid house system.

Using 17 x 4000w MPPT charge controllers (68,000w potential) though only 44,400w of PV are connected to them. Charging 191kwh of Tesla model S batterys. The batterys feed outback inverts with a total of 64kw AC output.

Only in America....

Crazy offgrid System

There sure are some people with big energy needs and lots of money to spend.

Just looking at all the Midnite classic 200 charge controllers up top . They are roughly $1000 each and he has 17 of them. I wouldn't even want to start adding up the total system cost.

I was just looking at one of the picks and if you look up on the cieling . It looks like a steel box with a lot of small black tubes out one side. At first I though perhaps they are tubes for liquid cooling of the Tesla cells. Though it's hard to tell what it is.

It is insane but there are people who use stupid amounts of electricity.

We had a guy post on a offgrid forum the other day who was asking about a offgrid system to meet a 150kwh AC pr day consumption with 50kwh AC overnight consumption. Using A 60kw array.

At first I asked if it was some kind of commercial project (cold storage) or the like. Was a big shock to find out it was just his house!
