New Lurker

Post by BenzKraft »

Hi Folks!. For some years I have had a 1962 Mercedes 220SE coupe stashed away which I had been planning to repower with a Mercedes 6.9 liter V8 . I have all the parts to do the job but recently i have been thinking about how much the 6.9 engine is going to cost to overhaul, ( it came from my own 450SEL 6.9 which was vandalised about 12 years ago and written off) . Doing the work myself, it still looks like a $20,000 task, it was running well as only these torque monsters can .and the cost of fuel is getting ridiculous especially for a car capable of only 6-12 MPG...
That's when I started thinking about electrifying the car instead. I have a lot of body work to sort first but I will be lurking here in the meantime as I plan my drive train.
I'm a trained engineer but have been specialising in Vintage Mercedes cars for many years. I'm not new to electric vehicles having worked on electric trucks decades ago and ...EMD and GE locomotives... In the last fve years i have seen things change in the EV world so I'm looking forward t learning more too.

Cheers! .
