new EV conversion

Post by drowe67 »

I am about to start conversion #2 - this one will be based on Goombi's low cost 96V Chinese kit of parts.

I am looking for a small donor car with a straight body and good interior......

Cheers,

David

After about 8 weeks shipping my kit arrived about 1 week ago from China. It's a very complete kit - for example the controller and contactor and fuse are all wired up on a nice plate that could be bolted to the front rack. I fired up the motor with a 12V battery and it runs OK.

Including customs fees the kit was about AUD$3500 delivered to my door - this includes motor, controller, contactor, fuse, charger, dc-dc converter and a coupler. I figure this could be reduced to about $3000/kit for a bulk buy, as a lot of the customs fees were per-shipment.

The coupler has a recess on the end that will be a nice fit for the centre of a turned down clutch plate - very quick and easy coupler arrangement for a clutchless conversion.

Eugen (aka Goombi) has some pictures of the kit on his site: http://www.goombi2.mysite.com/

The motor is a whopper - twice as large (and heavy) as my previous ADC motor for about the same power rating. But it should still fit into the Charade OK.

As I mentioned at the Feb S.A. AEVA I would like to try a "all hands on deck" fast conversion of the next EV - get a team of people together and see if we can convert an EV in a week (or even long weekend). Everyone is welcome to have a go at some part of the conversion. I will get stuff like the adaptor plate made up first and buy all the bits ahead of time.

D-Day will be some time in April or May I think - depends on how quickly I can get organised with the adaptor plate. If anyone can help with measuring up for the plate (I am a machining noob) that would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

David

Wow. Weber and I have put in about 4 person-days per week for months, and we have just one electrical item to show for it: one lonely cell, less than half a percent of the final pack. Now you guys complete a conversion in three days (plus ordering parts).

Very impressive. Congratulations!
