breaking things in general
even breaking records
the "we" is inclusive of everyone.
I tend to find bugs in things and get dud products.
also tend to report things that are broken by others who haven't bothered to report the breakage.
part of being a pioneer and early adopter.

RAC DCFC was DOA last Sunday afternoon.
somehow Tesla John hasn't answered my question, yet; whether he used CHAdeMO or AC on the Sunday.
He just said that he successfully charged.
I arrived in the afternoon to find the error message.
John had checked in at 7.45 Sunday 11.

interesting how unit has failed within 90 days.
This is generally when things die.
After surviving this period, items tend to go on fine for the rest of their lives.

I haven't heard from John, but two other Tesla owners have mentioned to me in the last couple of days that they tried the CHAdeMO @ RACHQ, and either used the AC instead, or used the Veefil @ UWA.

went down to Marg River yesterday to test CCS
Rod dremmelled the 3D printed part
all good now.

Rob and Missus in P85D was doing 100kmh on the Forest Hwy
they went down to Augusta.
Seems that there was no power to one side of the street
so they came back to MR to charge.
Rob needs to get CHAdeMO to mennekes adaptor, he used the 22kW AC at MR.

There seems to be 2 teslas in MR and 2 LEAFs.

Rod, Jamie, Wayne and Michael were manning the EV display
Rod & Jamie had their Proton Jumbuck conversions on display.
there was an electric quad bike, an EV challenge vehicle, an e-bike, e-go cart

Nice! Yeah, power in Augusta can be problematic. The delay in installation was entirely due to finding a suitable site with good enough power.

Joseph - we really appreciate your efforts. Plugshare has been the best source so far of reliable charger status updates. As far as I know the network connectivity of all of the chargers (including the L2 chargers) is pretty close, but will come down to contracts as to whether it happens sooner or later.

I wonder whether I'm part of the pioneer or simply suicidal   Image . I'm planning to take the whole family (2 kids under 4) to go down south early next year with my Leaf. If any of these fast chargers down, that would be more than a simple uh-oh moment Image

Now come on; staying in an ice cream shop in Busselton for an extra few hours is hardly suicidal Image

So far, all but the RAC HQ is operational.

Good to know! I'm going to rely on these fast chargers! Did I say thank you to whoever make this happen? Here I say it again! Image

PS: Staying in the ice cream shop is definitely non-issue. The sugared-up kids strapped afterward in the back seat, will be entertaining though Image

Just so everyone knows the DC fast charger at the RAC Headquarters, Wellington St, Perth, is now operational. DC charging had been offline since October 11th, but on the 26th we had it going.

One of the output diodes needed to be replaced. It is currently set to about 27 kW but will be lifted to full power soon. Most iMiEVs and Leafs wouldn't notice the difference since they spend so little time over 40 kW anyway.

The last we heard the Harvey, Donnybrook, Dunsborough, Nannup and Bridgetown chargers are going to be set in place over the next two weeks, and commissioned in mid November. Again, the hold-ups are mainly bureaucratic, but should be resolved shortly.

And for those who are still unsure about the Mandurah-Bunbury stretch, the Crooked Carrot will be installing a couple of bollard-mounted 15 amp GPOs next month. They are more than happy for people to stop in for a quick top-up from an extension lead in the meantime Image

Exciting news is that RAC are still very keen to extend it to Albany, but it does depend on funds. The easiest route would be Manjimup, Rocky Gully, Mt Barker and Albany, however some of these sites are not well endowed with good power. I'm pretty confident there will be a solution though Image

What would be really useful with the current range of most EVs would be some chargers about 50km out of Perth. One at the Lakes would be great. Doesn't make as nice a media story as extensions to Albany though, and no major towns to put them in.

I'm a big fan of a fast charger in Pinjarra for those of us who live on the eastern suburbs. Makes a trip south much easier if you don't have to cut all the way through to Mandurah and back out again.

Mundaring was chosen on our original vision document as there are far more amenities there than the Lakes.

I think when the website was written they programmed in the installation date of 31 Oct 2015, and there's some code that automatically says "This charging station is already up and running" when that date is passed.

And the website hasn't been updated with the latest information (which is that the installations will happen in the next week or so)

Donnybrook and Dunsborough might already be standing on their slabs, but the wiring will have to wait till next week.

I am off on my honeymoon on the 2nd December in my LEAF.   It would be convenient if Harvey is up and running ( pun dubious )
Hey, I might not have been completely successful but 3 family members have just gone hybrid, one is a PHEV. That's 3 cars consuming less than half of the fossil fuel poison. It's progress!

You won't ever see 50kW from these fast charge stations unless you have an EV with (minimum) battery voltage over 415V or so.

The RAC / circontrol stations are limited to 120A or 550V or 50kW - whichever is reached first.

Lithium batteries are only able to "fast charge" at lower states of charge - when the voltage is lower too, so EVs will hit the 120A limit first & the kW will ramp up with voltage until tapering starts.

It looks like the iMiev starts tapering at around 25% (at ~357V) so you will see maximum 42.8kW for only about one minute and then it will drop again.

The Tritium Veefil @ UWA is limited to 122A so you can squeeze a tiny bit more out of it (43.5kW) before tapering starts

Ah, that makes sense, it's CC-CV instead of constant power (with CV limit).
