So in perspective:

Alcoa, a large metal refining company, has made a non rechargeable battery made of metal and want to sell it to us at a similar price to petrol.
Each plate goes ~32km or 1600km per stack.
By my way of thinking that's ~$200 per stack.
And you need to full up with water every 300km or so.

But there is no reports or Peak power.
They also suggest they it should be used with Li-ion battery to get the power.
And on long trips it could run off just the stack.
Which suggests the power is limited to ~15kW.

In all quite reasonable.
As long as they don't keep upping the stack price to be in line with petrol.
And the initial cost of the stack would be a factor.

A nice power converter and ultra-caps would be ok for a city car rather than using Lithium batteries as the backup power.

It seems like it could be a good alternative to a small petrol engine with a generator for long trips. They claim the packs are being made in Quebec, where 90% of the electricity is made by hydro electric dams - so it would be the cleanest aluminium available, at least. Still hanging out for lithium-air cells myself but it's an interesting design.

Don't forget that the Aluminium/Air batteries are not rechargeable!
They are just replaced and rebuilt.
