US to mandate minimum EV noise level

Post by Johny » Tue, 09 Aug 2011, 18:35

With plans by the USA to finalise regulations for a minimum noise level for EVs and Hybrids by 2014 (http://www.caradvice.com.au/128415/hybr ... in-the-us/), Ford have released some noises to vote on.
I like 'C'. (Auto makers will have 3 more years after 2014 to implement - lots of time for not much effort IMO).

That's why they invented SUBWOOFERS Image
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

The reversing beeper in this video sounds very ominous! Image

Much better than the Prius though that has the reversing beeper in the dash and cant be heard by pedestrians.

Do the deaf get run over more often then?

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Oh, never mind...

I didn't hear a thing.

Subwoofers aren't they some navy mascot??

I think that it's more about delegating common sense and responsibility; and because there are plenty of cretins around legislature halls and car makers engineering labs.

edit:

It's all rather idiotic when you consider how quiet a new car is when idling around a parking lot.

Out with woofers and in with flappers. We need spoked wheels and convenient place to attach playing cards with clothes pegs so they flap against the spokes.

It's not the end of the world, but I can see it from here.

Hi,

A few years ago, they had a Vectrix at South Bank in Brisbane. They urged me to take it for a ride but I said "What I really want is an electric car" and they were not too pleased with this (I had a Kawasaki 1100 at home, what do you do with two bikes?)

Anyway, I've just bitten the bullet and bought one from Melbourne. I've just registered it. My wife says it sounds like "a mosquito on speed" but I too have that ev grin.

I only wish I'd supported them back then, when it mattered.

p.s. My blade cars won't arrive until October (for reasons at both ends). Not sure if one will get to the ev show or not, but it will if I have it by then.
