this might be a great way to promote EVs
I shall endeavour to be at these events.
but first I need to do the training.

Murray the instructor is pro EV

just found out about the tuning sessions last Friday.
$80 for 2 hours.
"you can even bring your wife's camry" was one of the comments.
note that it has to be prebooked,
ie. not just turning up on the day.
long sleeve shirts, long pants and helmet required.
no loose objects

Rac driving centre.

I wonder if anyone else has entered an imiev in a Motorsport competition?
Only seen imievs racing on gran turismo 6

It was super fun

There was michel in a Peugeot
I was no 50
Even beat a GTR in one of the tests
Will post results soon
Wind messed up timing marquee.
Drivers were supportive

Thanks to Juergen Murray Ben Warwick
And timing team.

There were lots of mitsu evos
Couple of mr2s.
Hmm I might ask barney if his mr2 has been Round a track.

If we can get 4 EVs then we can create a class of our own.

watch out for bees, one good reason to wear a helmet.

I know someone who tried to claim insurance on his smashed up track bike after binning it at turn 6 on Barbagallos. Shortest phone call ever. Racetracks and insurance are like fat men and stairs. They just don't go together.

I wonder if I'll be no. 50 next time?

mcmotorsport disclaimer is that you need to find out from your insurer if you are covered for events like this.
the RAC do not cover vehicles participating.

I just contacted RAC today, should get reply tomorrow.
letting them know that it is not a race,
i.e. no overtaking involved.

I think the key word is ' Motorsport' .
My comment was TIC since the RAC are vehicle insurers and it is their track after all.
I await your feedback J

Yes, a few years ago we organized a fun road rally for a club and were instructed to make sure it was always called a "fun drive" for insurance purposes.

looks like I need to change to shannons now for the imiev
RAC doesn't cover motor sport across the board.

called shannons. seems that no normal car insurance company covers motorsport.
cos it is too risky.

Here are the results.

Was at mx5 club day yesterday.
Confirmed that once you are on the track, you have no insurance.

What are you going to use the fire extinguisher for ?
There is no fuel in the iMiEV.
All the electrics are fused and monitored to shutdown. There isn't even an un-fused starter motor as with ICEs.
You shouldn't even be able to burn a wire as in some conversions.
Battery pack thermal runaway from BMS failure or physical damage is the main risk and you aren't going to tackle that with a fire extinguisher. Mitsubishi don't recommend that, they say to flood the battery module with water.
Edit: although I see they have listed a FE in the equipment list and suggest it for 'vehicle fire' not battery fire ?

I guess you are facing the historical FE requirement of CAMS etc.
You can either debate the case or just cave in and carry a FE, a small one in the glove box. Image

The battery pack service isolator plug under front of passenger's seat and the battery access (for water filling) should be kept clear in any FE installation.

Any race track should be up to speed on EV safety procedures.

Here is a collection of
Emergency manuals

Ok, so I can see why J doesn't want to race the volt, it would have to carry two fire extinguishers and an identity crisis councillor.   Image

found out from Juergen that FE is only needed for competitions, due to CAMS regulations.
found out from gogear that the FE is for the driver NOT the car.

bad news monday's sprint has been posponed.

we can still go around the track & skidpan for 2 hours as a consolation on monday 8am on.

took the volt out yesterday at the RAC DC, used about 6kWh and range dropped to about 50km
on the way there the ac button on the touch panel played up, had to power cycle the volt

will be taking it out on the track on monday.
had to lower the seat to accommodate helmet as volt has a low roof

a bit disappointed that Easter Monday sprintkhana was cancelled
but managed to participate in the State Sprints on the Sunday
http://mcmotorsport.com.au/perth/wp-con ... l-2014.pdf

main intention was to see Jurgen's modified Suzuki Swift
wasn't intending to take part, but I always keep my helmet, long sleeves & pants in the imiev.

In Time 3, I went the wrong way. Forgot to do the left loop cos I was trying to be clever and follow the Bombs Away Subaru.
There was plenty of time to recharge the imiev cos it took 1 hour between times.

looks like sprintkhana might be on hold for a while, but I've been campaigning in the WA State Sprint Championships

http://mcmotorsport.com.au/perth/wp-con ... y-2014.pdf

had some competition from Toyota Echo.
it did not have ESC, but the driver was really good.
conditions were wet and treacherous
I spun the imiev on Friday Tuning Session with my ESC turned OFF. Good that it was in a controlled environment.
