NICE! I heard a school group in Adelaide were building one, Varley has one, and some fellow called Mike? And Dan, yourself and maybe Voltron. Most likely not with me on it though

Hey Jon, I'd love to get Voltron back over. I have two new Agni's lined up, so finders crossed they will arrive in time. They are the new 111Rs - pretty similar peak ratings, but the continuous ratings are higher, so I can go further without smoking them. Again, time, money and DC motors are in short supply. Great news about the fee reduction at least. In any case, if I can't afford to go, I really want someone else to make use of the bike. It would be racing at their expense, but at least they didn't have to pay for the build.
The new build is for 2013. Watch out cause she's gonna be a balltearer! ...and a wallet tearer
~80 kW continuous, 350 Nm, PMAC AF motor, 10 kWh lipo pack and a hot-rodded inverter. But so far the battery pack is coming along nicely.

Did you work out what the cause of the motors burning out?
It'd be a real shame to not have Voltron racing. Who am i supposed to barrack for if there's nobody from Perth? hahaha
Oh well, good luck to all the teams for this year's racing!

Thalass,
The motors burned out cause I was dumping too much current through them
It is a real shame Voltron won't be there this year, but I have some serious teaching commitments this year, and besides, Voltron II is going to be a much better bike.
And I see it might only be Daniel and Jon's bikes out on the grid this first round. I was hoping there would at least be three bikes without me.
Not good enough guys! You lot need to get out and build some bikes for racing's sake!!!

Hey Chris is the 80kW motor one of the ones from EVO? If so what sort of cost are you looking at delivered?

Hi Faz
Yeah, I plan on getting an Evo AFM140-3. It costs about $9000 delivered
I'm going to run it on a 450 V DC bus, which means probably only about 320 volts to the motor. Assuming 300 A max from the controller, that's about 96 kW peak. Provided the controller can deliver, I won't risk blowing anything up... Which is good cause it's too damn expensive
Voltron will need another $3-4 k spent on it to get road worthy again, so that can wait I think.

Ouch $9k
Still is ok for size and performance.
I would have to spin a poor little AC Induction motor to 12,000 RPM to do the same power for the same weight!

So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.
