Hey Perth,

Patrick and I will be taking the electric scooters up to Wanneroo Kart track where we'll be pitted against the mini-motards and assorted small petrol powered two-wheeled things. I'll be racing one of them. My objective is to 1. not come last and 2. not crash. We'll have the AEVA tent and banners up, so come on up and have a look.

I will be blathering endlessly about my race bike frame having just been delivered. So best you drop in when I'm racing Image

I would like to come down and watch but got things on tomorrow. Went to the last practice session and it looked like Patrick had the amps turned up quite a bit by the end of the day. Image

Some video from Danny Pottz scooter, me briefly in front. Turned out 23 psi was good enough to put in a fast lap - he cuts me up in the first lap and pulled 10 second gap by the end of the 8 lap race. Maybe it was 10 laps, I dunno. Not like it mattered, we were seeing blue flags everywhere Image

What license do you need to race the scooters?

Any racing done on two wheels needs a licence to be issued from Motorcycling Australia, who in turn won't offer a license unless you have proof of club membership (MCRCWA, Pocketbikes, MX etc).

Do a few trackdays at Barbs and become a member of the club, then ask for an MA competitive racing licence assessment. It's not cheap - the whole exercise costs me about $600 a year Image

Ok, we have our electric bike from Newcastle. With different higher gearing it would be well suited to the track in the video above. Just wondering how hard it would be to pass scrut. and also for my 14yr old brother to be qualified to race?

I'd have to check the 2013 MA manual of motorsport (yawn) but there are junior categories. We were only racing scooters cause they kind of fell into the mini motard category (with senior racers). E-bikes would definitely not fit into any of these clases, and would need it's own class. Mostly due to minimum weight rules, but I can ask Beau and see what he thinks.

Thanks Chris, that'd be great. Another category of racing for us to compete in would be awesome.
