New Web Site Plan

Post by karlg » Fri, 23 Mar 2012, 21:37

The changeover to the new web site is planned for Tuesday, 27 March, 2012.

Because this will involve changing some of the domain name information, it might be that the web site, emails, and the forums might go off-line for a short period. This will be temporary and should not last longer than an hour or two - if at all.

The current preview site is situated at: www.test.aeva.asn.au.

Please contact me if you have any difficulties or issues regarding this.

Thanks Karl for the notice (also for the new website!), can you post here again just before and after you make changes, so we are reminded to test a few hours later?

cheers,
Woody

No worries, Woody - I've put it on the action list.

It should be a fairly simple operation as http://www.test.aeva.asn.au is the actual site running live - all that needs to happen is for it to be moved into place (which means you can test it now).

Regards,

Karl

New Web Site Plan

I haven't been following this thread - due in part to some computer issues...

Is the "new system" going to include any kind of Search function
(eg, via Google.com even)? :-)

If not in this coming release, when? :-/

TIA.

Hi IVI,

You mentioned Google.com - does that mean you would like to have the search function search the whole web?

Otherwise, there is a search function for the web site in the right-hand sidebar. (It just needs some content to search for..)

Karl

Please test and report issues etc via the contact form on the site.

Now that karlg has setup the new email server, I was just wondering if a few people could report back on notification emails from the forums. Is it all good? The forums/forums hosting have not changed, but the main AEVA website hosting, DNS and email system has changed.

It's all working fine for me. I didn't notice any change. Well done.

Yes, it's working normally for me too. If anything, it seems a little faster.   Thanks   Image

Yes, same here, and I think that's the hallmark of a great upgrade: there is no change (especially disruption) for the user.

Actually, I've noticed a good change: it hasn't crashed in four days. Not that remarkable of course, but the old server was getting pretty bad some weeks. So far, so good... (like my plan to live forever   Image )

A seemless transition. It also appears to be faster.
