Need Help with J1772 wiring. Gelco EVSE ??

I have converted my LandRover and have no problems charging it at home , I simply have a 15Amp 3 pin plug connected to a J1772 on the car .
There are no smarts in the car, The back of the J1772 simply connects to the 3.3Kw TC Charger , with a 240V Relay on the AC side to tell the BMS when the charger is live. It has a proximity resistor .

There are some Tesla destination chargers nearby so I bought a Gelco GS1018 http://www.gelcoservices.com.au/gelco_e ... ehicle.htm
This plugs into the Tesla charge cable on one end , has a black box (EVSE ??) in the middle & J1772 plug on the other end . When I connect to a Tesla charger the green Tesla Light animates & the Power LED on EVSE comes on but is as far as I get .
So can someone please advise what I need to make my EVSE function .

, I am planning on putting it up on AEVA though.

Diode and resistors from memory.

Thanks , have just installed as per EVTV circuit diagram,
Bob at Gelco emailed me another version of same resistor /diode circuit, Have installed , will report back with results.

The Tesla charger needs to be set to legacy mode.... Dip switch 2 inside it...

The 882 Ohm resistor and 1N4148 diode will work on most Charging points, but the new 3 phase Tesla HPWC's are fussy.

You would of been better off to use a type 2 socket on the lightweight.. It's becoming more common by the day..

Thanks Reecho , Type 2 being the Tesla connector , right ???
Im prepared to change the charge socket if I need to , ....... EV Range is only a minor inconvenience, I have a workaround for that :)

Sketch Coleman is powering an inverter from his 4x4 battery (has another big battery in parallel) which he uses to charge his electric supermoto. He needs to have the vehicle running to keep the power up to the alternator, but at least it's possible to charge trackside when there aren't points available.

A type-2 inlet would be a worthwhile investment.

Yeah......indeedy.

Go type 2 moving forward. Type 1 will disappear depending on how stubborn the japanese manufacturers are... :-)

Oh and for something a bit more technical you could whack in an AVC2 module...

The diode and resistor trick worked, Plugged into 3 phase Tesla Destination charger & LandRover now charges at the usual slow rate of 3.3kw (as indicated on Zeva BMS) . Have also ordered AVC2 module.

Chris, I have a 180Amp alternator in the Iveco but only a 2kw inverter installed , meybe I should invest in a bigger inverter . hmm good idea.

Hi goingbush
I am looking at using same charging setup, can you tell me where you sourced your 3.3 TC charger and what model you went with and were there any issues communicating with the zeva BMS? and did you end up using the AVC2 module? any issues with that?

Sorry for late reply, my account was broken.

I got the TC charger direct from manafacturer in China , made to suit my pack voltage & WITHOUT CAN interface , since I have hears so many tales of woe about CAN incompatibility. Works PERFECT with ZEVA BMS using the manual hookup method . No need for CAN there at all.
I bought AVC2 module but didn't end up needing it.

Note that the ZEVA BMS does support the ability to connect to TC chargers over CAN bus for direct control.

I am taking a gander at utilizing same charging setup, would you be able to reveal to me where you sourced your 3.3 TC charger and what show you ran with and were there any issues speaking with the zeva BMS? what's more, did you end up utilizing the AVC2 module? any issues with that?

I have the AVC2 unit as well - I hope to install it in the Prelude shortly. Main goal is to allow charging from Type-2 connectors in public, but it also incorporates a relay which can be used as an interlock which prevents driving off while still plugged in :o

Hi there-AVC2 works well for both of those functions. Been in my Berlingo EV for 2-3 years now. Best function BTW is the lockout one: WAY easier than setting up micro switches on filler flap etc.
Cheers

Hi Don, can you please show me what your wiring diagram was for the J1772 protocol? I've got an AVC2 in the Prelude but the success rate with some charge points so far is pretty poor.
