...and buy yourself a set of these.

If you don't already have a set, you can get one from RS components. The two VDE spanners and the 12 mm socket were extra to the kit, but the whole lot came to about $1000.

It's a sh*tload of money, but in my circumstances it's a matter of life and life without eyesight (and possibly a defibrillated heart).

The red plastic stuff is considerably more resilient than PVC tape!

It's plastic dip :) hard as nails :)
Even the cans of the stuff to dip your own tools are expensive :)

Same. I have a set of insulated screwdrivers from Jaycar, and I just use the double-wall glue-lined heatshrink on everything else.

Yeah, I figured 700 V was enough to warrant something a bit better engineered. Not that the pack will ever be at 700 V while I'm working on it, but handy nonetheless.

Pfffft just man up :p
Must be an AC owner thing...
DC owners cld totally take a 700volt hit and shake it off :P

Yeah I copped a 200amp sap from not earthing the tig and holding the metal :)
Got to say for 5 to 10 seconds I think I may have been strong as the hulk.
But 3 min later it was that feeling you get when winded but plus lactic acid :)

If 200 amps flowed through your body, you'd be turned into a fireball in less than a second.

After skin resistance is overcome, the human body has around a kilo-ohm of resistance (from poor memory, and I'm too lazy to look it up). Power equals I^R, so that's around 200^2 x 1000 = 40 megawatts.

The 200 amps only flows through a very low resistance circuit, like the welding wire and air heated to a plasma state.

[ Edit: and with E = I.R, it would take around 200 x 1000 = 200 kV to force 200 A through a human body. ]

50mA for 30ms kills you, or is it 30mA for 50ms?

Yup but the HF of the tig is just a fun pulse :)
