I now have one of the lighter/smaller 3000/6000w inverters.
When I attach it to the car charging system it cycles as before.
When I attach it to a 2000w heat gun, it will operate the gun on low (1000w I assume) but starts cycling when I put it on high.
I notice when it's cycling, the battery voltage is going from 14.5v down to 10v (the cut off for the inverter) instantaneously then back up to 14.5 when the inverter cuts out. So am I correct in suspecting the (old) lead battery cannot handle the load rather than the inverter?

The lead acid battery is sulphated, if you can disulphate it with a ripple charge it might come good, otherwise you are going to need better batteries.

Well Finally in the process of ordering the batteries from China. For an extra US$100 I can get them in a pack with a 12v BMS, is the BMS required/advisable or does the Dingo handle that part of it as well?

The BMS may not be able to handle the 200A continuous you are going to be using on discharge.

On charge it may be useful though, but with just 4 cells there's not much to go wrong

Thanks Matt,
There are 5 lithium titanate batteries in all, about $A800 worth, so don't bother with the BMS?
