I would love to access the Chademo port on my Imiev. I went to a talk about future energy directions (in NSW, but also applying to Australia) given by John Kay, Greens MLA in NSW.
One of the things that came up was regarding using the batteries in the car to assist powering the house.
I know there is a Chademo Box in Japan that will give access to the Imiev Batteries for external power. I wonder if there would be any used ones yet? (Hard to look in Japan with the Language difficulties)
regards Doug

Did you ask the greens member how, when the party has been as close to government as they will ever be, over the last few years, that so little has actually been DONE in Oz towards EVs and a sustainable future ???? Oh yes, carbon tax on green power and off peak electricity and not on transport fuels, I forgot.

Is there any security with the chademo couplers?
Someone can just come up and unplug the coupler at the moment
Unlike some j1772 couplers with their padlock holes.
There probably would be a SMS message sent to the user if there is a fault with the system.
This is what happens with the chargepoint Australia bollards
Eg plug out message

I guess a CHAdeMO, that is hardwired to charge station and only plugged in for <25 minutes, is in a different situation compared to J1772 plugged in for 5-10 hours.
Isn't the CHAdeMO connector locked by the charge station controller once DC charge has commenced ? I though I read that and pondered the need to carry boltcutters in case my EV became co-joined to a charge station in the case of a fault (or an unpaid weber tax

)

Chademo plugs lock to the car with a solenoid driven by the charger. Someone can't unplug it while charging without hitting "Stop" on the charger first, or by the charger ending the charge cycle automatically.
The "Stop" button may or may not be active based on card swipe, security settings, etc depending entirely on the charger manufacturer.

Thx for info James
Any plans to roll out more chademos in oz?
Moreland, Swinburne, mitsu sa, NRMA, tritium hq
Are currently the only ones I know of
It would be good to buy Australian.
Do you have a model with sae combo, chademo, j1772 all included?
And also possibly a 15amp socket for e-scooters.
Abb, circontrol, Fuji electric. Ecotricity
What are your prices
Do you have
a) 20kwh models
b) Portable models.

Politics not technology.
Oh ,I forgot. Politicians are all electrical engineers and personally know what they are talking about.
I agree with a suggestion that politics should be balanced and qualified. So along with 50% female politicians, we should have 50% engineers. Not all lawyers and bean counters.

Chademo = Betamax
Better tech but not consumer mainstream
Betamax was used in tv studios
Will be interesting to see if chademo will be around in 2030
The market will decide I guess.
I'm rooting for chademo since I have an imiev
Zero has a chademo upgrade

Well I've looked at the 3 major contenders for DC fast charging, CHAdeMO, Combo and Tesla. I don't see a technical advantage of one over the other. I do see politics and I would prefer an industry standard rather than a single EV manufacturer version. The parts need to be mass produced and low cost and at least a worldwide standard (perhaps while numbers are low).
Arguing about which one to use when only one is actually 'on the road' seems to be wasting time in advancing EVs.
Can I point out the real requirement..... that we actually GET DC fast charging stations.
Yep, I'm biased too. CHAdeMO rules (at least so far

)

Chademo is sure a lot easier to implement than SAE.

The software side of it is two CAN packets and some quite tight timing requirements.
SAE is about 4 layers deep of their protocol over compression over SOAP over HTTPS over IPv6 over HomePlug GreenPhy powerline comms. What a mess...

Neat ! bloodsucking vampire EVs !
But that is part of the point.... the DC access direct to the batery pack via CHAdeMO or whatever is so verstile. It makes onboard AC chargers just domestic backups.
I guess that the andromeda power 'jump' system contains a 50kW boost inverter with current control so one battery pack can, with boosted voltage push charge into the second pack.

That CHAdeMO jump starter is pretty cool. Looks like the sort of thing RAC might have in their service vehicles in the future.
I wonder what sort of $ they'll be..

Shouldn't the 2 Leafs be parked nose-to-nose? What do you do with the rescure Leaf after it's bled dry into the stranded Leaf?

Circontrol is a bit confusing they've only gotten chademo certification for 1 of their chargers not the other models
http://www.chademo.com/wp/chademocharger/
http://www.circarlife.com/en/products/quick-charge the compact and combo 2 arn't listed on the chademo website
Edit: the model number on the chademo site doesn't match a single model on the circontrol website..
